Another venue question

I was just wondering if anyone has had their wedding or attended one at the toledo museum of art?

If so what was your impression? how was the food? and what about  the music sound (jw if it echoed)

 thanks in advance=)

Allysoop is having her reception there, I believe.  Hopefully she sees this, otherwise, you can page her.

AHH yes! We are having our reception at the Glass Pavilion this August .. and we are PUMPED!

We had our food tasting last week and we were BLOWN AWAY - awesome, awesome food. Erika did a great job of listening to our likes and dislikes on food and what we wanted for the reception and created a great meanu. It tastes amazing (definitely not the standard "catered" food you get at a wedding). Very unique and classy..

We are having a band (last minute change thanks to a surprise from FI!) so I'm not sure how it will sound. I'm assuming its fine but honestly I don't know. The band will be set up in the Crystal Corridor (long hallway throughout the GP). The bulk of the reception will take place in the Crystal Corridor, actually, although we will eat in the GlasSalon. It's cool because you can basicaly see everything thats going on the whole time because fo the glass walls so you can't miss anything.

"Decorations" are being kept to a minimum (SUPER minimal centerpieces ... read: cheap!). The museum is cool enough so why spend money and time trying to change it..

I have heard that their prices might have gone up, so I'm not sure.... you might want to check on that.

Wedding is in about 5 weeks (Aug 6)... so I'm not sure when you're planning for but I can definitely get in touch with you when it's over if you're interested.

You can PM me if you are interested in more specific details and info now - I'd be more than happy to share. I also have a litttle bit of info on receptions in the actual musem if you want to PM me about that. How many people are you thinking of inviting?

we are planning for about 200 but if needed we could adjust the count. I seen the photos online and loved the spaces. I got a price from them which at first was a little shocking but it didn't scare us away. We are gunna try to go tomorrow and check it out some more in person. I was just wondering what catering company they use? jw why did you choose the glass pavillion over the other marble room? whats the differences beween them?

Definitely get in touch with them because when I looked into it, the rental prices had gone way up.  I was told they're trying to get away from doing events like this and the prices could be vastly different now than from when Allysoop booked it.  The new rental prices put it way out of my budget.

Yes - we definitely got in before the price hike. Rental for us was $2,500. We are not having our ceremony there, though (we are having it down the road at Rosary Cathedral).

We will be having 20-225 for our reception. The GlasSalon holds about 215 people (so with 200 you're good - don't go over it). Any more and it will be super tight. If you wanted to have your reception at the main museum you wouldn't be able to fit everyone in the Roman room... tables would be in that room and the gallery leading into it (with the Chuck Close painting and the sculpture with the creepy guy sitting on a bench). The dancing/DJ would be in the big lobby facing Monroe Street. That is one big reason we decided against the main museum -- way too much separation (if people are eating in different rooms thats no fun.. and I have NO clue how music would travel through there).

Definitely try to head over tomorrow afternoon to check out the GP. The band we have booked will be playing at a reception there (at least thats what FI told me they told him). You will be able to see a setup of the GP then - with the tables in the GlasSalon, centerpieces, bar set up, etc. We've done that a few times.. wait until about 5ish when wedding setup really starts to finalize (the museum closes at 6 and thats when the cocktail hour will start).

As for catering you have to use their in-house kitchen. We weren't sure about that at first but seriously the food was AWESOME. We got to tell Erika exactly what we liked or didn't like.. foods we wanted to have or certain tastes we like. We are going with a family style dinner. The menu she planned for us is PERFECT. We made no changes after our food tasting. She stuck right to our price point as well. There are a couple of alcohol packages. We went with the "limited open bar" - 2 beers, 2 wines and a signature drink (we chose a berry mojito!).

A couple things as FYI - you MUST use a florist from their approved list (and its quite a large list in my opinion). We are going with Hafner and are very happy working with them so far (definitely within our budget). Also, you CANNOT have any candles or open flames in either museum, so count those out for centerpieces etc. It kinda sux because they are such a cheap and easy way to do centerpieces but we are working around it. Actually with a family style dinner the centerpieces have to be small and low anyways so its perfect for us.

Also - you can have a glass blowing demo going on in the Hot Shop during cocktail hour! We are doing it as a surprise for our guests (how many receptions have you been to with a glass blowing demo??).

Whew! Ok.. that's all I can think of now! Let me know if you have more questions.. PM me if you want -- let me know what you think when you head over tomorrow!
