Kleinfelds?

One of my dear friends is recently engaged, and she wants to do a weekend trip to NYC to go to Kleinfelds.  I'm happy to indulge her, as she's one of my closest friends and this is a difficult time, as joyous as it is, because her mother won't be here to celebrate with her as she passed away 9 years ago.  So if she wants Kleinfelds, I'm making sure that girl gets Kleinfelds!

Any suggestions for a visit to Kleinfelds?  And a NYC dress/wedding shopping trip?  I don't think she'll be a very high budget bride, so is it even worth going if your dress budget is around or under $1200?  And if you're about a size 16 - are there dresses you can try on? I plan on beefing up her budget by $200-300, and I think her sister will throw in another $100 if need be, and I have a feeling we can get her fiance to throw in a bit more to make her happy.  I just want it to be an awesome experience for her!

Re: Kleinfelds?

  • I honestly don't know much about Kleinfleds except from what I've seen on SYTTD, but I don't get the impression that they cater to the "$1200 budget, size 16 bride."  $5k and a size 6 she'd be their perfect customer.

I hope that didn't come out mean, and I hope I'm wrong, but I'd hate for the experience to be a frustrating, disappointing one.

  • at $1500 she is going to be very limited in Kleinfield - even if she was a size 4. Check the selection online at that price point before making the trip to NYC

I had originally wanted to go to Klienfield as well but found my dream dress at Stylish Impressions at Farmington CT after checking a few other stores in the area and I'm so glad that I went to a smaller bridal boutique. We were able to get everyone in the bridal party outfitted and get really personalized service.
  • If you are going into the city and Kleinfeld's doesn't work there's another place in the garment district called RK Bridal.  Two of my friends got their dresses there.  I went with one of them and tried on a few dresses myself.  I didn't buy there because my mom wasn't with me and I didn't want to buy a dress in NYC because I didn't want to travel back and forth with it.  If you are going I would suggest going during the week.  They have a huge selection to choose from.
  • I got my dress at Kleinfelds and had a wonderful experience.  I went on a Sunday, so it was very busy, but once our appointment started it didn't feel quite so crowded outside the lobby.  The lower budget does limit things.  My budget was $2000, and I felt very limited, but ended up trying on a few a little over, and got mine for $2600.  For me going over was worth it as I absolutely love my dress, but if it's important for your friend to stick to her budget, Kleinfelds might lead to more trouble then it's worth.

  • I've heard that you should have a minimum budget of $1500 if thinking of going there, and that even that will be VERY limited.  They do have bigger size dresses though.  I hope your friend finds what she is looking for!

  • I found my dream wedding dress at Kleinfelds blow out sample sale. I had gone to a sample sale of theirs a month earlier and the experience was worth it. They found the perfect dress for me and I went back a month later to get my plus size dress in perfect condition for about $1000. I am sure that I am a unique case due to my planning method and lots of prayer. Just saying, the experience was worth it. ...

  • I got my dress at Kleinfeld's and had a very positive experience. It was busy, (like PP I had a Sunday appointment), but once I got into the dressing room and looking at the racks it was fine.

I am so happy with what I purchased there and my dress was under $2400. :)

  • you could try posting on the NYC local board too, im sure they would be helpful.
  • Bring her to the pronovias flagship store!  So many dresses and I think they have all of them in plus samples.  It's a gorgeous store.

  • I didn't like it.  Weekends are super crazy and everything was way expensive for me.

  • J.Crew has a bridal store on Madison Avenue. I know their dresses are pretty reasonable.
