2 yr old birthday gifts?

My baby sister will be 2 in a couple weeks and I'm at a loss as to what to get her!

Any ideas?

Re: 2 yr old birthday gifts?

  • Oh!  We just did gifts for 2 y/o triplets.

We got them a giant Aquadoodle mat (no crayons for marking up walls), a big bag of MegaBlocks and a wooden farm animal puzzle (that makes the animal noise when you get the shape in the right spot).

  • Does she like to "build" or put things together?  If so, one of the best toys I gave Andy was Magneatos. That and a book of course.

There's a bunch of them (the ones I linked are rated for 24 months); and they ship pretty fast. Andy LOVED them. He was 2 or 3 when I got them for him at Christmas. I think 3 - I was here.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Light up  musical seahorse.

  • My kids loved something called "Ball Party Bounce" when they were 2.  They played with that thing constantly.

They also loved bath toys at that age.
  • Oh, and if she likes Winnie the Pooh, those are the $5 animals at Kohl's right now.

  • Raynes, Aquadoodle mat, I'll have to check that out!

    Jen & Jas, thanks!

Missy, I'm not sure, honestly. She lives over 3 hours away so I don't get to see her as often as I'd like.
  • Do those magents come apart? Because I saw a very convincing episode of Grey's Anatomy in which a kid ate magents which then started to travel through his intestines.

  • My MOH's daughter is turning 2 next week and she's really big into kitchen stuff.  Like pretending like she's cooking and serving a meal.  I looked at Toys R Us online and they have the most awesome stuff for playing kitchen.  They even have a little tableware set with cups, forks, knives, spoons, and plates (all plastic of course.)

When we were hanging out with the kids in the playroom at the hospital they loved the kitchen set.  It was more of a throw things around and stuff random things in the fridge than making pretend food, but at least one of them was in there the whole time.

I've heard this too (not becessarily with that specific brand but with toys with magnets in them) but I think that most of the time they come out the other end.

I second the aquadoodle mats (my daughter still plays with hers), kitchen stuff, puzzles and blocks.  Also, we have a pillow pet that we love b/c it's a stuffed animal and pillow.  Great for watching a movie or a ride in the car.
  • The magnets are large and the pieces are large. Andy never ate any. I

  • I'm the master of getting little children gifts their parents never wanted them to have.  I vote for some sort of loud instrument (like the xylophones they sell for kids), or something wicked messy, like play-doh.  Yeah, I'm evil.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

You're definitely the "cool" aunt. Last Christmas I got my nephew a drum set.  But my brother is a musician so they weren't upset with me.

If you ever really hate someone (like seriously never want them to talk to you again) then get their kid moon sand.  What an absolute mess, we had moon sand for all of 10 minutes before it went away never to be seen again.
  • LOL!  No, I take cool aunt to a whole new level.  Last year for Christmas my SILs receieved a cotton candy maker, and a snow cone maker.  Parents hate me... kids love me.

  • Sidewalk chalk

I always have a huge bucket of sidewalk chalk handy and it's the first thing my nieces and nephews always ask for when they come over to my house.  They get a real kick out it and even the babies have fun.
  • Bubble machines go over really well, too.  If it's nice out (not Minnesota winter), kids will wear themselves out chasing after the bubbles that crank out from it.  The parents will probably like that.
  • I'm a librarian so I always give books or book related items. Like the book and the stuffed character from the story. Fancy Nancy is in right now and there are great toys associated with those books :)
    Anniversary
  • PS - the bubbles work to entertain dogs, too ;)
