Roll Call

Hello ladies! Since there are a lot of us newbies on here I thought it would be good if we introduced ourselves again. I will go first...

Names: Jessica and Paul
Wedding date: May 12, 2012
Location: The Tides Estate
How did you meet?: I knew my FI from High school but we never spoke. I though he was a total dork and he said I was way to thin, we know it would have never worked back then. 8 years later we got reintroduced by a mutual friend, and here we are getting married.
What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?: You should look forward to the marriage that comes after the party, so don’t stress the small stuff, it will never turn out as perfect as you want it to be. My mom told me this
Anything else you want to share?: When FI and I started dating I joined the knot ( I knew he was the one, I was just waiting for him to realize it) I lurked till now and got great ideas and knew what I was getting into, also the drama that use to go on in the NNJ board was awesome entertainment.

How did you meet?: I went to high school with FI as well but we never talked.  We met at a mutual friends house our freshmen year of college.  FI asked me to be his beer pong partner.  We ended up ruling the table all night long and the rest is pretty much history.  We dated for 3 years from 19-22 took a 5 year hiatus to grow up and mature experience life.  Then we got back together summer 2008 we both had shore houses in Manasquan right down the bock from each other.  We ended up rekindling our love and spent the whole summer together.  We now own a house and our dog Parker who is a boxer.  FI proposed in Cape May August 27, 2010 :)

What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?:
You don't need to go over the top buying the most expensive things for your wedding.  It's a 5 hour party what matters the most is marrying your FI and building a happy life together.

Dont try to please everyone. Its a waste.

How did you meet?:  Its a very looong, complicated story. We tell people thru a mutual friend, which is technically true.
What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?: Remember your wedding is just one day, your marriage is a lifetime.

Anything else you want to share?: Just wishing you ladies all the best of luck, love, and happiness!

How did you meet?: I met him when I was in 7th grade through his cousin that I was great friends with. I used to see him all the time at her family gatherings but I knew he was a "player" from stories I would hear. Well one day my friends mom started working at the same place I was working at and said that her nephew has been single for a long time and he wants my number so we can hang out(She heard through co-workers that I had recently ended my 4 year relationship with my ex) So my friends mom, me, and ryan went to a bar and the rest is history almost 4 years later!
What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning? You dont need to buy the most expensive items to show some kind of upscale wedding, do what you can afford to do and remember at the end of the day, you will be with your partner!

Anything else you want to share?:  I am 100 days away from the wedding and am so excited I started doing things way earlier in the game even though people always said you have soo much time! Its a great stress relief to know I dont have much left!

How did you meet?: Haha, we met through internet forums, sort of like The Knot but much more extensive subject matter. He hangs out on the car boards and I'm on the pets and fashion side. There was a local meetup so I met him with a group of people at a pool hall in Raleigh, NC. It is impossible for me to convey how we met to people who don't know about internet forums; my mom tells people we met at a "computer seminar" because she just doesn't understand it. For a while she kept asking which one of us had a personals ad up.
What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?:  I haven't gotten a whole lot of advice from anyone except Knotties yet, and you all have been phenomenal with sharing your experiences and advice on the little things like blocking hotel rooms, photographers, Photobooths and choosing our venue. I love to hear about everyone else's wedding details too!
Anything else you want to share?: We live in Durham, NC but I like the NJ boards better than the NC boards! We're getting married in NJ so I guess it just makes sense too. Also, sorry I missed the drama!

    How did you meet?:
A co-worker of mine, Craig, was dating Dennis' sister Kimberly, and they still swear that they emailed each other at the same time on the same day saying they should set us up. Well when Craig approached me about this I wasn't very interested (I didn't like when people tried to play matchmaker). To make a long story short, after much persistence from Craig, I reluctantly met up with him, Kimberly, and Den for a drink at a restaurant in Morristown one night after they had dinner (I thought the shorter amount of time I was there the better). I thought Den was nice, but very quiet, and when he asked me for my number at the end of the night, I thought it was because he felt obligated to. Anyway, we went out a week later (I thought we were going to have nothing to talk about), and have been together since. Kimberly and Craig are now married, and have a beautiful little girl (one of our flower girls!), and we've been together over three years. I guess love does happen when you least expect it!What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?: No matter how hard you try, you can't please everyone.  And don't sweat the little things, it'll all come together in the end...brides are less beautiful when they turn into bridezillas!!
Anything else you want to share?:
I've worked in the hospitality industry for 10 years, and have seen A LOT of weddings.  A few things I've learned and/or witnessed...eat something (you are paying for so much amazing food, and you need energy to get through the day), don't drink too much (and spend the majority of the wedding drunk in the bridal suite, you want to remember your day!), don't wear a dress with plastic straps (yes I actually saw a bride wear a "strapless" dress with clear plastic straps), and most importantly, have fun and try to take it all in!

    How did you meet?:
We met through a mutual friend once but then never saw each other for about 7 months. We are both Croatian and when I band from there came to America to play we bumped into each other and that was the start of it all.
Coinincidentatly, 4 1/2 years later that band came back and he proposed a week after the concert.

What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?:
    Breathe!!!

Anything else you want to share?: There is a 9 year age difference between FI and I. When we first started dating I was 19 and he was 28 being viewed as a cradle robber.....now I'm 24 and he's 33 and I'm a gold digger.... we're the only 2 dummies who think we actually like each other!

    How did you meet?: Myspace...LOL

What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?: Take your time and don't rush into decisions.
Anything else you want to share?: For FI and I, our wedding is a once in a lifetime experience and we are really going all out to have the party of our lives. What I've learned through my planning: It's really important to remember to compromise and include important aspects of both your background and FI's background as well. You can't predict the future and if you try to, you will end up disappointed. Also, don't be surprised when people you never thought would let you down, do. On 8/20, I get to marry an amazing guy and have an amazing wedding....it's not the big chuch wedding I always envisioned I would have as a little girl (never thought I'd end up marrying someone who wasn't the same religion as me...God does work in mysterious ways!!), but now...I really wouldn't have it any other way.

@dalmatinka: Haha, I think it's hilarious that everyone puts labels on the age difference in your relationship. There's an age difference between me and FI in the other direction. Luckily, he has never even jokingly called me a couger or that would've been that.

How did you meet?: He went to NJIT and I went to Rutgers (right accross the street from each other).  One night, I was outside of the campus center and I saw this cute guy and he smiled at me...later that night, I told my friend who went to NJIT about this cute guy I had just seen outside.  Anyways, he ended up being one of her good friends (but it took her a while to figure out who the guy I had seen outside was), she introduced us and then rest is history!  We have been together since 2002!  Although we did take two breaks around 2004 and 2006 but we ended up getting back together and they were no longer than 2 - 3 months. I'm glad we were able to workout our differences because I couldn't be any happier and excited to be marrying  my best friend!

What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?: To enjoy the engagement which I have been so far.  I haven't really been rushing into planning because I still have plenty of time.  Although, I think Mike would say otherwise! hehehe

How did you meet?: Chris and I met our senior year of college at Montclair State University. I just got back from a semester abroad in Italy and Chris recently transferred to MSU. We had mutual friends, but our paths never crossed until the first day of a Communication Studies class. I remember walking into class and noticing Chris right away...He is 6'3 and had spiky hair at the time. As a class exercise, we were instructed to strike a conversation with the person next to us then switch partners every 2 minutes. Well, Chris and I never switched partners and talked the whole time. Here we are 5 years later...

How did you meet?: Excellent question...we both went to PSU and had a mutual friend so we "knew" each other, but basically just said hi in passing (although I have a pic of us from St Paddys senior year - go figure). Fast forward 5 years from graduation, I haven't seen him since and I ran into him at Homecoming up at Penn State, we start talking and it turns out he just moved to NJ for a new job in NYC so I told him that we should meet up with other alumni to watch games...the rest is history.

What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?:
Do what you think is best. !hen you have 150+ people coming to a wedding you won't be able to please them all, just make sure you and the FI are happy with what you are doing. When your guests see the happy couple, they will be happy.

Anything else you want to share?: DON'T buy a house at the same time as wedding planning! Dear god, the stress...however the extreme stress has actually brought us closer together.

How did you meet?: We met at a dinner party we had both originally planned on not attending.  He opened the door when I arrived, took my coat, we talked all night, and ended with a slow dance in the middle of the apartment.  I knew he was special right away.  It was quite a wonderful night.

What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?:  Don't get caught up in details because as long as we are married by the end of the day nothing else will matter.

Anything else you want to share?:  Being a social work grad student and wedding planning has certainly been challenging.  It has been stressful at times but also going to my internship helps me to remember how frivolous issues don't need to matter.

How did you meet?: We actually worked together at the same bond rating company in New York, but met at a work happy hour. We started dating soon after but kept in secret (scared of the office romance). I decided to go back to nursing school (which I just became an RN!! YAY!!) that's when things became serious. We have been dating ever since.

What is the best advice you have gotten/given about wedding planning?:  Just make sure that YOU and your FI have a great time at your wedding. Try not to stress about everything. Their are people on this board that will help you through any obstacle you come up against. Also, you don't have to spend tons of money to have a great wedding.
