Beach wedding shoes

So it's looking like we will be having both te ceremony and reception on sand so I'm not sure what to do for shoes. My FI will be wearing dress shoes which will make him a fair bit taller than me if I'm in sandals or flats. Has anyone successfully worn wedge heels on the sand? I would really prefer not to wear low or no shoes for at least the ceremony... Any suggestions?

Re: Beach wedding shoes

  • I'm not sure how any heel would do in the sand honestly. (or how your FI's dress shoes will do).  I guess it depends on the sand.  If its more hard packed it might not be as big of an issue but if its soft you're going to sink probably in heels.  I know I'm not even good with flip flops in the sand.  I have to take them off almost immediately.  I'd do a test run.  Take a pair of wedges that you might already have in your closet and go for a stroll. See how it works

  • I'd vote for no shoes!
  • I vote no shoes.

At our beach reception, 95% of the people took off their shoes.  It's just easier.
  • I typically end up barefoot at every wedding I go to regardless of location so I too vote to just go barefoot.  Our ceremony is on the beach and I'm planning to go barefoot.  I am taking flip flops, wedges, and heels on the trip though.  I plan to wear my heels or the wedges for dinner.
  • No shoes is the way to go and that includes FI too b/c the sand will get up in his shoes and all over his socks and end up being a pain.

Not sure exactly what beach you are using, but we had a metal pale that had several of the 3-4in wide paintbrushes with ribbons, in our colors, through the hold and a little sign for our guests to brush the sand off their feet.  It was a nice and thoughtful touch for our guests.

  • No shoes. It's SO much easier. I always get a giggle out of wedding guests who wear shoes in the sand - they look so silly.
  • Thanks for all the input! The FI is excited at the idea of no shoes lol
