Need Another Brain...

...for ideas on how to decorate this aisle.

This has been one of the things I've kept putting off thinking about because I can't figure out what I should do that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I bought an aisle runner because I feel like I do need to create a "pathway" but should I make something to go on the sides of the chairs? Something to line the sides of the pathway instead? Argh.
I don't think I need to do a whole lot because the church is already so nice, but I want something in there. What do y'all think?

Re: Need Another Brain...

  • I just saw a picture somewhere of pomander balls that were kind of flat on the bottom and they were placed on the ground next to the seats. I think that would be a cute idea! Balls of flowers lining the path. I definitely think you need something more than just an aisle runner.

Also, maybe flower petals lining the pathway? That's popular.
  • one friend lined the aisle with strewn wildflowers.  Two semi straight of bargain filler flowers in bright pink (her wedding color).

Another friend picked spools of dark and light purple ribboon (her wedding colors)  and lined the aisles with two stripes (one light, one dark).  If you have a half dozen people and those 3M mounting squares. It only takes a few minutes per person.  Have one person hold the spool at one end of the aisle while another takes the ribbon and walks it down to the other end of the aisle.   Ensure they are relatively straight and then have the other four people place the mounting squares (pre cut double sided tape) under the ribbon.  Put the squares in eight inch intervals so that enough of the ribbon is tacked down (and won't tangle on peoples feet.)
  • i love the idea of candles and rose covered isles!
  • I don't think you need to do anything, not even use an aisle runner.  The aisle is clearly visible, as is.  Honestly, I'd limit florals to comething near where you'll be standing for the vows, either two arrangements on pedestals or, perhaps, a small bunch of flowers on each column.  Less is more.
  • Thanks e'body!

Magdala, I really like the idea of the strewn wildflowers...with the ribbon, was it like an aisle runner of alternating colored ribbon? That's a neat idea, plus I would imagine if I used fabric and my sewing machine I could do it cheaper than buying all the ribbon.
  • The ribbon was two lines of ribbon on each side of aisle.  The center of the aisle was just the regular rug.    The four lines defined the area and added some purple punch to an otherwise beige area    Her venue was does in shades of cream and beige and she was worried that all the neutrals would overwhelm the display urns at the altar.  She picked up four spools of 25 foot 3/4" inch ribbon at a local bargain store for $16.
