Not Engaged Yet

Distract me please!

I'm still really freaking out about my doctor's appointment next week. And I came home from vacation early (to make sure I'd be here Monday) so I'll be snowed in all weekend to stew on it. (I repeat: Google sucks.)

So what's everyone up to this weekend? Does anyone have fun weekend plans? If not, make something up. I need a distraction!

I'm having engagement photos taken. I have no idea what I should wear, would you like to be my personal shopper for the afternoon?

You can search for non-sucky maternity clothes for me that don't cost an arm and a leg.  I need my arm and my leg for said baby.

Hm, doesn't sound appealing?  I didn't think so.

I am somewhat wishing I was back East right now.  I know you guys have been hammered this winter, but I would love to be snowed in for a weekend.  I think we are going to need to go to Tahoe soon.

I would shop for y'all but that's why I have my gays. I don't even dress myself. It's not pretty when I try...

I should be cleaning/prepping my house for sale but... just doesn't sound fun.

Mutley have you tried Craigslist? A lot of times they have bunches of maternity clothes for cheap.

Hmmm, I had not thought of that.  I am just beginning my search.  Last weekend truly sucked.  I am not quite fitting the waist bands of my normal pants but maternity pants don't fit either.  I tried to just go up a size in jeans but then they don't fit me anywhere else.  I am going to be splurging on an amazing pair of pregnancy jeans!

Sigh.  All of my gays are back in LA. Cry

And cleaning... I cannot help you there.  Most days, I am proud of myself if I have enough of a break in my crappiness to take a shower.

I just got my e-ring back from the jeweler.  Took it in to have it appraised and replated.  I now know everything I ever wanted to know about my diamond and the materials that make up my grandma's ring, and that makes me happy.  In the end, the center diamond was .10 carats, I color, and I quality (chipped).  The whole ring is .14 tcw, 14k white gold with a platinum "miracle square" setting.  It's worth less than $1000, and I still love it.  FI was worried that once I saw the value and all the specs I'd want something nicer, but this is my perfect ring, and even if he'd gone out and bought me a new one, I wouldn't have wanted him to spend much more than this one is worth.  Silly FI.

Point of that story is two-fold:
    1) I wanted to post the specs so that all the newbies we've had recently that are freaking out about getting the perfect ring would realize that a perfect ring does not have to cost $10K and be a colorless, flawless, 1+ carat diamond.  Your perfect ring is whatever makes you and your FI happy, and is comfortable within your budget. :-)

    2) FI and I are going this weekend to visit my uncle and aunt.  Uncle is a jeweler that specializes in custom work, and has offered to make my wedding band.  We're using another heirloom ring, but taking it apart and having him re-work it.  The jewelry store here estimated $1500 for the job, but he said he'd probably be able to do the work for a third of that.  He also can order FI's ring at cost, rather than the marked up store prices, so we're going to pick his ring as well.  SO happy we're getting rings out of the way this weekend.  One more thing checked off the list!

Try to use an expander on your pants, thats where you make a little button holed slip thing to let out the waistband specifically for growing bellies. Eventually, you are going to need preggo jeans, just not yet. If your mom is head sewing she should be able to make you one out of some cotton with an extra button or two.

Yay Acro!  I love your ring.  I am excited to see what your wedding band looks like.

Hetshup, I am currently using a hair elastic to 'extend' my pants.  It is just very uncomfortable.  I am fine wearing my current jeans (without an extender) when I am out and about.  However, as soon as I sit down, I cannot stand to have anything pressing against my stomach.  It is very weird.  There is a good amount of space between my jeans and waist when I am standing.  It is the pressure when sitting that causes major issues.  Sigh.  Comfy pj's or sweats do not cause this problem.  I think I have to just suck it up and get preggo pants.  :(

P.S. Paint, I sent you a pm a couple of days ago.

mutley - maybe this is why i see so many preggy ladies in spandex & tunics????
  • edited December 2011
NOOOOO!  I refuse to lose my style.  REFUSE!  I also refuse to pay a buttload for maternity clothes.  I am such a snob when it comes to clothes but refuse to pay full price.  I hate how most maternity clothes are constructed.  I really did have a complete meltdown last weekend while shopping for maternity clothes.

I think I will be fine once I actually have a belly.  I have only gained 2 lbs, but my whole body shape has changed.  My ribs have grown.  My boobs are HUGE.  My hips have widened - like my actual bones.  Sigh.

    Sorry for the TJ, Paint.

A few months ago Macy's was selling jeans with an elastic band at the top in the juniors department. I'm not sure if they were just supposed to be "comfy" jeans or if it's because I live in pregnancy pact, MI and 40% of the teenagers need maternity pants so they're marketing them towards the teen moms.

Paint- I can send you my stats homework :).

Acro - that's very cool! I'm the same way - I would take a piece of family jewelry any day and I wouldn't care how much it was "worth" in other people's dollars!

I want to run around in spandex and tunics!! I grew awfully fond of yoga paints on my vacation. But I think I would get fat if I wore them regularly. I have zero will power.

Mutley - Please TJ all you want on this one! I LOVE hearing about skinny chicks getting bellies. Even if it's just temporary. (I can't really complain much now - I'm a size that's easy to find - but I used to be a chub-o and wore maternity tops all the time. They fit my boobs and hid my stomach. Seemed brilliant at the time! Didn't dawn on me to lose some weight, which I eventually did.) But I still LOVE hearing about skinny chicks getting un-skinny!!! :) Love it love it.

I am glad I can bring you some joy.  Tongue out

Honestly, I didn't realize how vain I was until now.  I am overjoyed to be pregnant.  I feel so fortunate that we didn't have any issues with it.  I just didn't realize how much I was attached to my figure.  I've been lucky.  While I have always worked out/been athletic, my genetics rock.  I have never gained weight in my stomach.  I gain in my thighs and butt.

Throw in my crazy emotions and the last week has been a roller coaster.  I have actually felt badly for my DH recently.  He bears the brunt of my breakdowns.

Plus I have not been able to go to the gym since being pregnant.  I am a gym rat.  I miss it terribly.  I am hoping that in 3-4 weeks I am past the sickness and can get back to doing something.

When we are done having kids, I will be having plastic surgery to fix what I think needs to be fixed.  I have no issues with having a boob lift or even implants if need be.  And if I have too much extra skin on my stomach, I will have it removed.  I figure after popping out 4-5 kids, my body might need more work than I can do at the gym.

Holy crap - 4 or 5 kids? Are you serious? We are still "negotiating" over 1! (Don't flame me - I'm kidding. Sort of.) I would be surprised if you had extra belly skin. You're young. Your skin is probably still stretchy. Boob lift - maybe. :)

I lost a ton of weight (over 100 pounds) almost 2 years ago now and was lucky enough not to end up with extra skin. I have plenty of stretch marks but the skin went back. But if a good surgeon ran a 50% off plan, I'd be running in for some lipo! The last 10 pounds are killing me....

    Paint that's awesome!

As far as pregnancy weight- I hope I am as lucky as my mother. After having me, she left the hospital in jeans she had pre-pregnancy. And I wasn't a small baby either... over 9 pounds! I hope she passed some of those genes onto me!

Yep.  :)  We plan on having at least 4.  The fifth one is negotiable.  We know exactly how we can support 4 kids and have planned, as much as one can, for everything from daycare to braces to college.  I just draw the line financially at 5.  There is a certain amount of money that must be in savings for us to have number 5.  If it was up to DH, we would have even more.  He jokingly said he wanted 7 when we were first talking about kids.  I've always known that I wanted more than 2.  He claims he said 7 so that any number lower wouldn't seem like that many.

Congratulations on your weight loss.  That is amazing.  How did you do it?

No flames here.  I know people will give us grief for having so many kids.  I think that agreeing on kids is one of the biggest decisions in a relationship, so how could I flame you for actually tackling it head on?

I was thinking flames from other people who don't get my humor/sarcasm. :) I don't consider your posts to be "flames". Sometimes the truth hurts!

I am a big Weight Watchers fan. I also started running after I had lost about 60 pounds. I ran a half marathon last fall.

I LOVE peopleofwalmart-it's like the people I see in my Wal*Mart, but they don't glare at me for staring.

Hope this is a good distraction!

**EDIT-I failed Weight Watchers, because it combined diets and math, and I'm not good at either.  So I must say, a hearty congratulations on that!!
Curves worked for me-when I remember to go.  I was getting toned at first, but not really losing weight-that finally kicked in, so I actually like to go.  But I don't know if a gym nut would like it because it's so regulated, but I still wanted to mention it.

Don't worry paint...you'll be just fine, just you wait and see. Regardless, I've got you in my thoughts and prayers and sending you lots of good Knottie vibes...

This weekend is bordering on ridiculous. I worked all day today, then went to a TA meeting (job #2), picked up my dress, had dinner with rickylee, and now I'm home (FI's out with best friend), staring at all the piles of shite I should really be packing, yet reruns of Unsolved Mysteries is currently having the stronger draw.

Tomorrow, I'm under strict orders from FI to sleep in (I think he may force me back into bed if I try to get up - have been having really hard time sleeping lately). We're having a "date day" tomorrow - going shopping for stuff for our new townhouse (we move in on Wed!) and having dinner. After that, it's Packing City.

Sunday, I'm in the lab all day, trying to put together an abstract for a conference in Portland. After that, home to pack, possibly over to rickylees for a Super Bowl party...

Somewhere in there, we need to settle on our wedding budget and decide on a venue. Oh yeah, and I can't lose my mind in the process. Eek.

Oh my gosh I'm loving the tacky wedding site! Awesome.

Good luck with the crazy weekend, Ocean! I'm snowed in until at least tomorrow, which is probably for the best. I should be working. Emphasis on "should". But I haven't been sleeping well either - why am I up now?? - and am hoping to catch up on rest.
