WHAT is your dress budget

Re: WHAT is your dress budget

  • I had a $2000 budget that I wanted to stick too.  My dream dress came just over that with taxes.  I was shocked when I saw the price of it.  I thought it would be way out of my price range.

  • My budget was $1500 for the dress+alterations. I actually spent $1200 ($900 for the dress and $300 for alterations).

My budget was under $500 (new I was going to trash it afterwards, so I didn't want to spend a ton).  Found one for $350 and my mom did my alterations!
  • My budget was "as little as possible." I was thinking in the $800-$1000 range. I found a dress that was $1100, on sale for $800. My veil was $25 and I'm wearing family jewelry. Shoes are next on my list!

Mine was $1200 and $200 for alterations.  Based on searches online and in bridal magazines, I thought this was going to be really difficult to find something I liked at that price point, so I was pleasantly surprised that my dress was $675 and my alts were $120.

I was $605 under budget in this category!
  • my mom paid for it, and told me that the limit on the dress was $500.
    my dress was $499

  • I budgeted for $2500.00 for the dress. But I found it for $1200.00....alterations was about $750 (I  customized my dress, cap-sleeves, add more fabric...cost of the fabric) But I was lucky I'm using my sister's veil from her wedding ($400) plus I was given a never used bustier in my size($100.00). My shoes were $65, small tiara $35....jewlery is a gift from FI.

  • We budgeted $3000 (my parents paid for the dress) and the dress ended up being $2250.  I got a sample Vera Wang, it was originally a $6000 dress so I was happy that it worked out. I paid for the alterations so it wasn't included in the budget, so we were $750 under budget!
  • My budget was $3K and ended up purchasing one for $1900. Hopefully with alterations, jewelry, shoes etc. I will still be under my original budget.

  • I was hoping to spend under $3000, but really didn't want to go over $4000.
My dress was originally $3,800, but we got it for $3,200.
My FI surprised me with my dream shoes that were $650.

I'm going to buy an inexpensive veil!

  • I made a poll on this same subject a few weeks ago but any reason to talk about my dress... . I didn't really have a budget, but I am thrifty by nature. I was willing to go up to $2000 but I found the dress of my dreams for just over $500. With all the extras for the day it'll probably be around $800.

  • Mine was about $800, which I was worried was a little low after watching shows like say yes to the dress.  I had seen a Pnina Tornai dress on the show that I fell in love with but knew I would NEVER spend the 7k to get it. But God totally blessed me when I found the exact dress at a store that sells sample gowns from Kleinfelds.  It was my size and the alterations were so simple my mom was able to do them. My mom also made my veil so with cleaning, alterations, veil, and dress my total expense was $450! and I get to have the dress of my dreams! Just wanted to share my excitement with some fellow brides that would understand! Long story short, make your budget something you can afford and you never know what you can find if you keep looking.

[QUOTE]<strong>now i'm embarassed.  my budget was $5000. </strong> dress/veil/shoes/hairpiece came to about $6500. this isn't terribly uncommon in nyc but i'm surprised to be the most extravagent on this thread.

Don't be embarrassed! I thought I was low-balling at $3,000 (seriously, it must be those darn wedding shows) but apparently not. It's really whatever you're comfy with and able to pony up. =)

  • I am wanting to spend 500 or less on everything (dress, accessories, and alterations if need be).
I have my eye on a dress thats around $250. Still have to try it on but hopefull it will be perfect sense Im in love with the pics of it. Will still need shoes, tiara (what can I say I love them), and possibly a bracelet/necklace, oh and a good bra.
  • This thread has made me feel so much better!  I'm about to start dress shopping and while I wanted to keep my budget to $1,000 I was worried I would have to go up to $3,000.  We're basically eloping so I can spend more, I just don't want to.

  • I originally wanted to spend about $800 on the dress itself but my overall budget for attire dress and accessories was $2000.
My dress ended up being $1200 (including 200 for custom hollow-hem) and only needed at bustle after that which cost $25 but it was worth it!
My mom ended up buying my dress and most  the accessories ($200 for my UGG's that I wore during the ceremony, $90 for veil and tiara and $90 for jewellry). I bought a second pair of shoes for the reception which cost $80 and a fur cape which was $60.
All in all I think I stayed under the $2000.
  • We didn't really have a set budget when I started looking, but when I saw a price over $1K, it was pretty much out of the question. My mom wanted to buy my dress (and I bought hers for her!) and I wasn't comfortable asking her to spend more than that.

My dress ended up being around $700, and basic alterations are free at my dress shop. I have no idea how much my veil cost because my mom was sneaky and paid for it when I wasn't looking....Shoes I think were $45, and earrings about $45 as well; the rest of my jewelry is borrowed, and there is no way in hell I'm wearing a bra on my wedding day, so no expense there! :)

  • My parents paid for my dress and they said they'd go up to $2000.  I ended up getting the first one I tried on that I had loved online and it was around $1750 and then we got $100 off for buying it that day.  The budget did not include veil/alterations/shoes/accessories.  My veil was $375 and I don't know how much alterations will be. yet.  It's not supposed to come in til November or so.  My shoes were around $250 and the jewelry I've gotten so far is around $110.
  • My original budget was $500 for a traditional American wedding dress, but my fiance explicitly talked of how he did not like them.  I showed him a dress from a custom dressmaker, and he loved it!  My dress comes from Therez Fleetwood for $2100.  Surprised  It will be my most expensive piece of clothing, and I will wear it again.  lol.  It is more than our honeymoon travels.  I cannot believe that I am making this purchase, but I am in love with the dress.
  • $1,000 budget and I got the dress and the veil for less than that.
