How long did it take to get your dress?

Where I live there is no bridal stores in town so I am flying to Washington in June to buy my wedding dress, that way I can go shopping with my mom and sister too. I've read that dresses can take up to 5 months to come in once ordered, then once it does come in my sister will have to pick it up for me and ship it up here, then I will I'm sure need alterations.

How long did it take for your dress to come in once you ordered it, I'm starting to get nervous that 7 months before the wedding wasn't enough time if it really does take 5 months to come in.

My dress was the first one I tried on, but I tried on about 20 more and stewed on it for a few days. :)

They said mine would come in like 5 months, but it came in like 3 weeks (Davids Bridal) If you are buying at DB, I would not worry about having enough time, but I know some bridal salons it does take a while for some designer gowns.

Either way, I think you have plenty of time, a local seamstress should be able to do any alterations you need in a couple weeks at the most.

Yeah, mine is 5 months.  Found it at the beginning of February, it's not coming in until July.  I think you'll still have enough time, though...ideally you'll only have to go through one round of alternations and a 7ish week turnaround time for that is adequate.

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

It depends on if you go with a larger store or more of a boutique.  You can always pay a rush charge.  If I remember correctly, I ordered mine in early October and it came in late January so almost 5 months.  I had a Sottero & Midgley dress that I order from a smaller bridal store.

If you're coming to Seattle there are a lot of places here, including an Alfred Angelo and David's Bridal which might have a quicker turn around. You might also want to consider buying one of the gowns off the sale rack or a sample if possible so you could take it with you.

Just tell your consultant when you need it- and that you don't want to see dresses that may take 5+ months to come in. The consultant should have a good idea of what designers take longer.

Mine is Da Vinci and I ordered it at the end of February. They told me I'd have it by June (so 4 months) but it will actually be here within the next 2 weeks- so only about 2 months!

Have a seamstress lined up (mine here books up pretty quickly) before the dress arrives at your door. That should take some stress off your shoulders.

I havent bought my dress yet, but i was there when my sister bought hers recently. She found her dress at DB and walked out of the store that day with the dress, It wasn't clearance or one of the 99$ sale dresses. I don't think that is the norm, but maybe they had her size in stock for some reason.

I am yet to try on! I am in Greece... Leaving early May to FINALLY go Gown shopping with my Mom & BM... I am a little worried. Its so ridic that its 5 months for a lot of stores? Why? I don't even want to think "Where" they are made to take that long?

The only thing keeping me from being worried is my back up Gown from my pageant days... Which is surprisingly modest and classic. I just hope i fit in it!

I guess its more like anticipation to just try on... ANYTHING! I was such a late bloomer with planning =(

I'm thinking (as of right now anyways with out seeing any in person) I want a Maggie Sottero gown, there are so many from this designer I absolutely love. I think I'll be OK as long as it's no more then 5 months, ideally it'd be nice to get in 3 months so I guess I'll have to cross my fingers :)

I don't know why I even bother thinking about it, the last thing I need is another thing to stress about.

I ordered mine on 3/18 and was told 6 -10 weeks. So it should be here by the end of next month. I'm actually going to the shop today to show my mom the dress and look for one for her to wear, so the sales associate said they would be able to tell me when to expect it in.

    Got mine from Alfred Angelo

China mostly. That is why there are a lot of good quality knock offs coming from there. The Aussie market is flooded with these sites and there are a lot of knock off stores around that sell cheaper dresses. I have actually looked at a few and the quality on some is just the same as the original. A lady in a bridal store actually told me the website to go to get the faux fur shrug I wanted (at $365 in store) for the same shrug for the price of $29.95 plus $14 postage. Also came in within 3 weeks as opposed to the 2-3 months the shop said. I actually think mine has better quality sitching than the stores one.

As for my dress I also bought it off the rack and took it home that day!

When I was at the dress store today, the sales ladys said that with everything going on in Japan, it actually threw off the shipping shedules from China. So things are taking a week or two long right now.

3 months -- it just came in this past Saturday actually and I'm going for my first fitting tomorrow! It's a Mori Lee gown that I purchased at a nice little boutique here in Vegas (I'm a local).

I got mine at Davids Bridal but I bought one off the rack so I got to take it home that day. But my sister went last weekend to DB and ordered her wedding dress, her wedding is begining of August and it will be here before then and thats only a little over 3 months!
