Unique Reception Ideas

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for uniqure reception ideas.  I've been to a wedding where Ben and Jerry's ice cream came after cake and to a wedding with a photobooth.  I'd like a little something extra special like this to add some fun and interest to my reception.

Any ideas?

Re: Unique Reception Ideas

  • I really like photobooths, at our wedding it was a BIG hit and from what I've read from other brides here the same thing for them.

I like cake centerpieces with 2-3 different flavors between tables.

Depending on how late your reception is you could do a "midnight" treat.

We also did a "advice" tree for our guest book.  On each table we had a little tag that had a fill in the blank (i.e.  You know you are in love when___________  J when T feels  __________  just remember to _____________, type of thing).  We provided pens as a favor.  People really complimented us on it.

I also had cake pops as escort cards that people really enjoyed.

  • The groomsmen at my wedding bought a ton of glow bracelets and neckalaces and brought them out during the dance.  That was a fun thing most of the guests got into.

I lvoe a good late night snack at a wedding too.

I wouldn't worry too much about being unique.  Provide good food and good music and people will have a great time and remember your wedding.

  • Get an etiquette guide from the 1950s or earlier. Plan your wedding just like it says. Nothing more. Nothing less. So few weddings are truly traditional today, a truly traditional wedding will be unique.
  • Sorry Elisabeth, I laughed when I read your comment, lol!

  • I wasn't expecting my advice to be heeded, but I stand by the idea. Everyone tries so hard to be "unique," if  bride didn't try at all, she'd actually succeed.
  • That's why its funny!  It's ironic, I guess is the word.  In any case, its very true.

  • I think any sort of "midnight" snack stands out to me. One wedding I went to brought in hundreds (literally) of double cheeseburgers from McDonalds along with fries. Not the healthiest or most gourmet, but this was at a very formal wedding with an amazing dinner, which kind of made the snack more surprising and fun :)

We're doing mini milkshakes, brownies, and fries.

All you reall need is good food and good music and you've got yourself a great reception.
  • Thanks for all of the advice!

I was considering the idea of a midnight snack. That's a nice surprise, especially after people have been drinking and want to fill their stomachs.

I like the glow light idea! That's so funny. My fiance's friends would totally love that.

I was going to go very traditional at one point, but I really want a my wedding to be more like a nightclubish type party then a typical wedding. I have had more fun at weddings like that, than I have had at other weddings.

  • We had Santa Claus and Dickens Carolers, but I see your wedding is in April so that probably won't work for you.  On the other hand, it would be rather unique!
  • Saw some good ideas on here!! I was looking for something 'different' for a cardbox. I hated the idea of spending a ton if money on something to put cards in and never use again. I found this:http://etsy.me/At6n4y Which is pretty cool. It's a card box made from photo frames. I like it bc the shop owner helped me find fabric to match my colors. It's well made and something I can use forever and display in my house as a centerpiece! Thought it was a good idea and thought I'd share!! I also am going to take a picture of us and have it made into a puzzle. Guests will write their name on the back. After the wedding I will put it together and use puzzle glue, frame it and hang it up. It will be my 'guest book.'
