Winfrey Point

So, I know that you can either call on the first day of the month in which the preceding year you are planning for, and you can wait in line, but do you have to put down a deposit at the time to secure your date?

  • I don't know for sure. But I would assume that yes you would need to put down a deposit.

  • I'm pretty sure they don't actually reserve it for you until they have your money.  I've also heard it's best to be there in person to get the day you want, especially if you're looking for a specific day that you don't want to budge from.

  • Yes, you have to put down a deposit to secure the date. We looked at doing our wedding here but changed our minds. We were also told that we should be there in person if we wanted the best chance at a specific date.

  • How much of a deposit? I really like the venue based on location near the lake and the pictures of other weddings but seeing that it's completely DIY I don't know how to figure how much time we will need it if we choose here, plus I don't know if they allow things to be left overnight.

I would call them and ask about the deposit amount.  Those types of things often change quickly so what someone paid last year for a deposit may not be what you'd be required to pay this year.

My aunt just helped out with a wedding there and she said the family spent the majority of the day setting up since it was entirely DIY.    You cannot leave anything overnight.  I would strongly recommend putting pen to paper on a venue that is entirely DIY vs a venue that is partial DIY or even full-service.  You might find out that DIY is more expensive than many full-service venues.

I would have loved to have our wedding at White Rock Lake, but after doing the math and realizing how much work it would be for family and/or a coordinator, we quickly moved on to other options as it just wasn't right for us.  GL!

</div><div>That's exactly why I was wondering. I went to my sister's wedding and I remember thinking it very annoying that everyone that went had to help tear things down. So although it would be gorgeous to do it there and be able to personlize things according to our taste and who we are, I just think that even though the venue itself would be cheaper, all the expenses and time would just make it much more unenjoyable.</div>

We are having our wedding ceremony and reception there in two weeks.  It is a bit more time being spent setting up and taking down, as opposed to the actual event itself.  But for the time frame we were working with, and with what we were wanting (provide our own food with no caterer and allow drinks without a licensed bartender) it was more cost-efficient for us.  And luckily, we are keeping it pretty simple for decorations, so it shouldn't take too long (hopefully).  As for deposit, I just put down $200 for the venue and am paying off the amount tomorrow.  It's $400 if you have alcohol, but you get it all back a week or two after the wedding if the place is in good condition.  The lady I am working with is so friendly and helpful to my constant questions (Vickie is her name).  You can hold the date for about 7 days before having to pay for it.  It works bc someone did that to the date we originally wanted, so we had to move our wedding to a Friday night.
