Re: nuts & bolts

  • What is this?? It sounds very interesting.
  • cheerios, pretzels, peanuts, chex, whatever you want to add in...usually mixed with melted butter and seasonings.

  • mmm it does sound good I think we have another name for it here but I can't think of it off the top of my head.  That being said we usually mix it together with melted chocolate.  Haha you can see where our priority is...Haystacks that's what we call it.  I will see if i can find another variation of it though if you're not looking for chocolate. :)
  • no, haystacks and different. Think something like bits & bites...

  • I do mine with an envelope of ranch seasoning and olive oil.  Maybe 1/4 of a cup at the most.  I'm cheap on the oil.  I stir it all around in a bowl and then put em in the oven.  I just wing it.

I also include goldfish and asian rice crackers in the mixture.  ZOMG so good!

  • My mom always used to make homemade chex mix.  I think she just used an array of Chex, peanuts, melted butter, and seasoned salt from what I can recall and then baked it in the oven.
  • O haha sorry..I guess we don't have that then.. maybe i'll try one of the recipes that pop up :)
  • i love the ranch one mandy!

I can't find you on FB, btw - check your PMs.

  • I haven't made it in a long time.  I think I'm going to have to do that one of these days.  I should do one to bring to Mike's parents house at Christmas!  Sweet.  That's what I am going to do :)

  • We used to call it Trash. You can make it with Chex or Crispix or other cereal. The recipe was always on the Chex box so I never wrote it down. Sorry!

  • I've always used the one on the side of the Chex box, added cashews
  • The original (note that I deleted the microwave instructions since it doesn't turn out well with a microwave):

    Ingredients

    3              cups Corn Chex® cereal

    3              cups Rice Chex® cereal

    3              cups Wheat Chex® cereal

    1              cup mixed nuts

    1              cup bite-size pretzels

1              cup garlic-flavor bite-size bagel chips or regular-size bagel chips, broken into 1-inch pieces

    6              tablespoons butter or margarine

    2              tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

    1 1/2      teaspoons seasoned salt

    3/4          teaspoon garlic powder

    1/2          teaspoon onion powder

    Preparation Directions

Oven Directions Heat oven to 250°F. In large bowl, mix cereals, nuts, pretzels and bagel chips; set aside. In ungreased large roasting pan, melt butter in oven. Stir in seasonings. Gradually stir in cereal mixture until evenly coated. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool, about 15 minutes. Store in airtight container.

  • My moms recipe has been passed down from her mother, and everyone in the family loves it.

    1 box cheerios
1/2 box of shreddies (more if you like them)
1 bag of stick pretzels, broken in half
    1 bag/can of unsalted penuts
a TON of garlic (to taste, usually 4-6 cloves), through a garlic press
a TON of butter (usually 2-3 sticks)
grated finely 4-6 sticks of celery, pulp and juices

Preheat oven to 350, mix in a big roasting pan all of the dry ingredients. On the stove top, melt the butter, and mix in celery and garlic. Stuff in the oven until its cooked to your liking and eat.

Its so horrible for you but frigging delicious. Soooo delicious. Now I want some.
