father/daughter dancenot close at all!

My parents divorced when I was really young and I grew up with my mom being practically the only parent in my life. I see my dad rarely, usually just during my or my brother's birthday and speak to him even less. He's met and in old timey fashion, approved my fiance. I want him there simply for the fact he is my father and I'm the only girl, but I have NO clue what song to play for our dance! Nothing mushy or about close relationships, help please!

  • I'd also suggest skipping it, or doing it and inviting others out after 45 seconds.
  • Ditto PP's about skipping it or doing something non-mushy and only for a few minutes.

  • If you are not close to your father why not have a mother daughter dance! yes it is a tradition but make your own traditions, your mother has been there for you why not make her feel even more important!
  • we did 'the way you look tonight" (sinatra) and had hubby dance with his mom at the same time. so it was more of a parent/child dance and the attention wasn't all on the father/daughter.
  • You can skip it altogether or choose a non-sentimental song to dance to.
  • Uck, even if you were close to your father I would recommend against something mushy or about father/daughters. I hate all songs that are written FOR weddings.

I say go with What a Wonderful World. I did and it was a beautiful moment.
  • My father and I have never been very touchy feely, we always kind of do side-hugs. I have no idea what we would do shifting back adn forth for 3 minutes pretending to dance.  I asked my fiance if he minded if he skipped the mother-son dance and he said it was ok with him and his mother and so we are doing our dance and then straight into "We Are Family" and getting all of our family members on the floor.  That way, hopefully no one has time to think about it and we can get everyone on the floor!    You just have to do what seems right to you.
