Garden-like wedding

We're fairly broke college kids, living in pricey northern NJ - we're trying to plan a small (50 or so people) garden-like wedding. Ideally we'd love a backyard wedding . . . we just don't have anyone with a yard large enough to host us. Does anyone know any cheap garden/outdoor/rustic wedding venues? Even somewhere we could rent an open field . . . we're willing to go between NJ, NY, PA & NC (his family is from NC - mines from around NJ). thanks in advance, any ideas are MUCH appreciated!!!

You could always look into Liberty State Park. I'm not sure who you would contact in terms of renting an area of the park, but I know you could do it.

I attended an outside wedding at a park in Morristown when I was in the 8th grade, and it was pretty cool. Ceremony was outside, and then the reception was at some type of pavilion that was in the park. I don't know that name of the park, but I know it was Morristown.

It's not the Ritz by any means but check out the Lake Hopatcong Elks Lodge on Howard Blvd in Mt Arlington. You can even do the ceremony there. They have a caterer who is very reasonable. (I've paid less than $19 pp for certain events where food wasn't the primary focus & then done an open tab bar for 200 people which cost under $1000). They have a nice pavillion & a patio. They also have an inside in case it rains.

Thanks I'll check these places out. We're ideally looking for just an open field/foresty area, but as expected there isn't much in northern NJ. Thanks again!

My fiance and I are broke college students as well! We wanted a rustic garden wedding and so we booked Rutgers Gardens. For the ceremony and reception site, for ten hours total, it is costing us a base rate of $3500, which is quite good for NJ!
