August 2012 Weddings

Hair Trial...

So I had my hair trial yesterday and I have wanted a low curly chignon, loose and relaxed the whole time (after I realized its really hot in August)... I left the place and took a bunch of pictures.. and I HATE IT! I look bald, and it reminds me of senior prom... I started crying instantly... I already emailed the woman... IDK if I have to do another trial now... but I think I want it down and wavy... still afraid it won't hold up in the heat though... UGH one month to go... I didn't think I would cry at the exact month mark.. and especially over something so crazy... obviously it was a trial I don't have to wear it that way on the big day... sorry just had to vent... anyone else had this problem?

Re: Hair Trial...

  • I am right there with you. My trial sucked. It looked like I had a banana clip hidden in my hair and there were comb bumps in the front poof. When I got home my bridesmaid redid my hair the best she could to mock the photo I brought, that the stylist ignored.
  • uh oh you girls are scaring me.  my trial is only a week before the wedding

  • oh no! Definitely get another trial, and have her do a couple of different options until you get something you like. That's the whole point of a trial, to see how it looks and make sure you like it before the big day, so there are no surprises and you don't have to stress. It was smart of you to take pictures! Also, don't feel bad about hating it or about crying! You deserve to have hair you love.
  • Yeah, I hated my first trial, too. I am going back for a second one. My hair is one thing I am really not willing to compromise on!  Don't feel bad about doing everything you can to get exactly what you want.
  • My hair trial went okay actually.

I thought my makeup trial went okay too, but my mom hates how much makeup I was wearing, thought I think it will look fine for pictures day-of. But we re-took engagement photos shortly after the trial, so I guess I'll get to see what the makeup really looks like after my photographer has worked her magic.

MIne was all right.  I feel like it's hard to match up exactly what I have in my head... especially since I'm not even sure what I'm picturing!  More a feeling than anything.

I wasn't entirely happy with my trial, but it wasn't awful either.  I wanted something elegant, sleep, and modern (like the photo in my signature)... and it looked kinda like that, but I felt like it looked too simple on me.  I definitely want a lot chignon of some sort, but I may end up doing my hair curled/wavy.  I think it's going to be a last minute decision!

I also wasn't crazy about my makeup--I think I'm going to ask her to go heavier on the day of.

  • my hair trial was an actual appointment for a formal event -- so it had to look good at the end of it! my stylist is my typical hairsylist and she is SOOOO nice, and we tried a couple 'quick do's' while she asked questions "do you like this braid, or an inside out braid like this?'. she clipped and pinned my hair just so i could quickly see it.  once deciding, she went to work and kept checking in. "do you like this so far? do we need to change it?" etc.  we took TONS of photos at the end of it all and she wrote down notes about what to change for the big day (i wanted one side of the front a bit looser than it turned out).

im not sure if you didn't speak up during the trial, or just plain didnt realize you hated it til you got home -- but hair trials should be extremely interactive and you should always take photos!

that being said, if you can, book another trial (on your shower day or RD day, or some other day when you need to have pretty hair- haha). communicate with her the whole way through, and make sure you like it!

As far as your hair holding up -- i'm right with you.  i loved the half up half down look, but my hair is really thick and wavy and would NEVER agree with an August wedding. I gave up that dream and am doing a french braid with the end tucked under/in. its really quite elegant and it will be so nice not to have to stress/worry about my hair on that day!

    good luck!
  • Thanks ladies! I feel better knowing I'm not the only one freaking out about hair! I emailed her to nicely let her know after looking at the photos it just wasn't what I wanted... I'm sure it must happen all the time... I'd post pictures but idk how on an iPad!

  • I am quite nervous now...I don't live where I am getting married so my trial is three days before my wedding!  I guess i need to have a very clear image of what i want

  • Don't feel bad, OP....I just went for my THIRD hair trial today.  I just had to feel happy with it, and now I do!  I actually got a new stylist at the same salon that was much better.  So if you go again and you aren't happy, you may want to consider asking the salon owner if there is a different stylist she suggests for the style you want or your hair type - my new stylist has 3 daughters who all have hair like mine (long, straight, and thick) and today just went soooo much better than the last 2 trials.  GL!

  • aw crap, mine is Saturday. I'm a bit worried now LOL

I'm already undecided on hair up or down - I hope mine goes okay! I'm sure that your hair will be beautiful the day of. A trial is just to work out all those kinks so maybe you just need another one. :) Good luck!

  • OP, I wouldn't accept that reply.  You need to feel comfortable before the wedding.  They probably can't offer you multiple trials as part of your package, so just offer to pay whatever the normal price is for it.
