Re: Your first name

I love my name.  It's not too common, and I only have met a handful of Amanda's in my life.  The funny thing is that the inspiration for my name was the Barry Manilow song "Mandy" -- and NO ONE has ever called me that.  I've been Amanda all my life, and I like it that way!

My name is Tara, since my mom was obsessed with gone with the wind. Most people don't pronounce it right, not even FI no matter how many times I correct him. I prefer TAH-ra, but must pronounce TEAR-a, TOR-a, or TAR-a. A lot of friends just call me by my last name or initials, TD.

My gripe about my name (Tori) is that its a nickname, not really a "whole name." Not much of a problem when I was 12 but in my opinion it's not very professional sounding so lately I have been using both my first and middle names professionally.

As a Jennifer born in the 70's I wasn't such a fan in grade school.  I was always Jennifer C.  There are a ton of us in my age range.  I never liked Jenny and when I dated a guy named Forrest in college we heard a lot of Forrest Gump imitations.

This was such a fun post..

I love my name.. Christine... I was nicknamed Queen Christine (yay it rhymes) when I was a sweet little girl avoiding chores.

My family calls me Christina
I was supposed to be Christina, named after my father's mother, but my dad was stubborn and argued with my mom that his mother's name was Christine.  My mother (who has always been "right" my entire life) knew it was Christina, but let my dad have his way... and alas.. he was WRONG.. :)

I hate when people shorten it....being called CHRIS erks the crap out of me.. "Chris" reminds me of my wonderful, lesbian, summer-research roommate during  college.
I love my name now but growing up I was always sad that I could not walk into a store and find things personalized with the name Shannon.  It is a much more common name these days then growing up.
Posted by lovbulldgs
That's my name, too.  I used to get so excited when I was younger and I actually found items with my name on it.  I now have the most random collection of Shannon items because whenever I actually found my name- I'd make my mom buy the item.  I've never actually been crazy about my name and always wanted it to be something else (I never had an idea what though).  I've grown to like it a lot more now as I've grown up; we just won't be naming any of our children after me.

My name is o-kay...its just too common...I mean geez mom and dad very original!!

I must agree with Uppereast I do hate it when random people call me Jenny...seriously didn't I introduce myself as Jennifer why would you think its okay for you to call me Jenny??  Not that I hate it but only my family and very few close friends call me that and I find it quite inappropriate for some random person to think its okay to call me by that...I don't call Paul - Pauly's or John - Johnny or Susan - Susie...not unless you asked me to call you by that name...

My name is way to common. I hated it growing up, till this day when someone screams out Jessica atleast 3 heads would turn to look ( including me). My name is not spanish at all, and on that note my whole family says it with a Y instead of a J so it irks me even more. I went through a phase in grammer school where I had people call me by my middle name, but it didn't stick. FI laughed so hard when i told him about that..lol I love my name now, but I will def. name my children something not so common, but not so wierd that it won't be a good resume name.

I love my name.  Not so much when I was like 8, it was so weird and a lot of people couldn't pronounce it.  I think I wanted to be named Jennifer when I was little....haha Something normal, you know?  But as I got older I realized that my name was part of who I was and I was happy with that.  It is certainly a unique name, cause lets be honest, how many Felicia(s) do you know?

It was funny, at one point in my life I had two very close friends, One names Alicia and the other Elicia so the 3 of us never knew who anyone was talking to when they called out our name, it all sounded the same....hahaha

I have always disliked my name, Crystal. I have never met anyone else with the same name that I've liked as a person either. It's also always a strippers name on Jerry Springer or like the trashy girl on True Blood. I just hate it. At least my mom didn't spell it with a K...that would be so much worse.  : (

i love my name. i was the only person i know who spells it this way - kristine. everyone else is either christine or cristine. and then i become close friends with another kristine and that was fun. but like others mentioned, my name never pops up on anything personalized..so that sucked. lol. my official full first name is kristinemarie, but i decided that was too long for me when i was younger and i didn't wanna write it out, so i just said marie was my middle name. hahah.
-kristine!
