This came up in conversation when I was lurking on the ML proboard. Would you take a bullet for your H/FI/SO? Why or why not?

I don't know. I'd like to think I would, but I honestly have no idea how I would react if someone was about to shoot my husband.

When I have been in dicey situations previously, I reacted in pretty awesome ways, though, so let's go with yes.

Unless there's some accident I bet H lives to be like 100. The men on his side of the family live crazy long times. Both his grandpas finally died and they were both well into their 90's. I'm totally going first.

In reality- I'm kind of with Arwo. I'd love to be able to say for sure that I would do anything for him, but I have no clue how I'd react. Plus, I'm fairly sure that he would toss me out of the way if I tried.

In theory? Yes without thought.

Without thinking about it. I'm positive.

We were at some local stock car races and pretty darn safe behind a major fence; when a car wrecked and started coming towards the wall I stepped in front of H. He still picks on my for it. Asks me whether I actually thought I could take on a couple tons of steel and win.

I think I am having trouble imagining throwing myself in front of a bullet, secret-service style. There is a whole reaction-time thing that's messing with me.

If there could just be a thing where it was a choice? Like "one of you is getting shot, pick which one," I almost certainly would be like "Oh, hey pick me. Shoot me! Also, suck my giant lady penis!"

But as it is, I can't imagine how he would feel if his pregnant wife and his unborn child died to save his life. I absolutely would too and now I don't feel crazy. On the ML board, almost everyone said they wouldn't! It just kind of surprised me.

In theory, absolutely I would. In practice, I doubt my reaction time would be quick enough, but I'd certainly try.

I'd take a bullet for my H, my sisters and probably my parents, though they would be pissed.

haha all of this. I'm far to analytical to ever be able to consider a possibility where this would be an issue. ;) But I'd like to think my instincts would kick in. But he'd probably still be faster and throw himself in front of me (as I was throwing myself in front of him.) ;)

I don't think most gave a reason (the kid aspect didn't count because they said to take that part out of the equation.) They just said they loved him, but would choose themselves over their H. Here's the link if you're really interested:

I will say yes until the end of days but in that exact moment I don't know how I would react. FI would probably move before me and get me out of the way.

Hmm that's pretty interesting.

I wonder if I'll feel that way after 11 years of marriage like some of them.

A lot of them are like "I wouldn't want my kids to be motherless". I don't have kids yet but frankly I imagine that H will be a better father than I am mother

Plus he makes a lot more money than me. If I died, financially it wouldn't be a big deal for our family.

No - H and I have actually had this discussion and he said I'd better not take a bullet for him, even if I wanted to.

It made me uncomfortable at first, because, of course I want to say I'd take one a bullett for him, but, if he doesn't want me to...what do I say to that?

I would still take a bullet for H. I think most of our H's wouldn't want us to take the bullet for them if they had a say in the matter. This is going to sound cheesy to people who don't believe in God or heaven, but I know where I'd end up if I died. I'm not as sure about H so I wouldn't want to take any chances.
