Food Intolerance or Allergy?

Anyone have experience with food allergies or intolerances? I have been so sick a number of times lately and can't determine a cause. It's probably an intolerance - I get nauseous and want to throw up versus an allergic reaction. (I am allergic to shellfish - hives, etc, but this is different.) I'm trying to jot down what I eat so if I'm sick I can find a common food but so far... no luck.

Any thoughts? Anyone have similar food issues and if so, what makes you sick? (And no, I'm not pg, although bf asks me every time I'm sick. He's not nearly upset enough about the prospect. I would be jumping off a bridge. He almost seems hopeful.)

Are you still feeling stressed about moving, being away from your family & friends or being alone while your bf is gone?

When I moved out to MA - away from everyone I knew - I got severely homesick (only at the time my parents, doctors and I didn't know that is what it was.) It didn't happen immeditaely after moving. I just felt super nauseas 23 out of the 24 hours of the day. It was pretty much everyday. I went through so many dr's appointments and procedures and lost a lot of weight because I never had an appetite.

About 2 weeks ago I was super stressed (for what reason I don't know, I was just feeling super stressed) and whenever I would eat I would feel like vomiting. Then becuase I felt sick I would get more stressed out and it was a crappy cycle for about a week.

Other times sometimes just food in general makes me feel crappy and like I would be better off not eating.

I know I am not offering anything about any food, but maybe since you just went through a fairly big change maybe that has something to do with it??

Either way I really hope that you start feeling better soon.

I am very sensitive to dairy. It doesn't make me break out or anything, but it makes my stomach feel sour and acidic. I even get nauseous if I drink milk or eat ice cream.

I can do cheese and other dairy products in moderation, but I feel so much better if I don't. Cheese has been known to give me cramps and even put me in a bad mood (maybe because I don't feel good?).

I have also discovered that whole-wheat anything has similar effects on me. Mostly the sour stomach.

Try jotting down what you eat and then write how you FEEL about 30 minutes or an hour later. That may help you narrow things down.

Milk and certain cheeses are the two main things I have an intolerance to. Although lately, I have been feeling kind of nauseous when I eat chocolate and other "sweets/junk".
Although with the Milk thing, I think it's mainly a lactose thing, I definately cannot drink regular milk, but it sometimes react to lactose free non organic milk, but can have soy milk.

If I think of more, I will let you know.

ETA: and greek yogurt and certain icec ream. I probably should have just said dairy in general.

Loopy - Have you been talking to my bf? :) Because right after 'Maybe you're pregnant - haha" he says, "Are you sure you're happy about the move?"

I wouldn't be totally shocked if it was just stress but overall I feel good about the move. I'm under stress at work but nothing too unusual.

Jeana - I've been wondering about dairy but I feel like crap right now and didn't have any dairy today. I'll keep tracking and will keep an eye out for wheat products.

Carrots. Well there are a few other veggies too but if they're cooked I can eat them no problem. If they're raw though I get weird little bumps on my lips and my mouth itches like crazy. I love them though and it's not bad enough to really bother me so I still eat them.

I have an intolerance and allergy to just about everything (did you SEE my picture?!)

It sounds like what you have is considered an intolerance, BF has one to shrimp, but they aren't to be taken lightly because they can be just as bad if not worse than an allergy.  With my allergies my face puffs up and sometimes in extreme cases it closes my throat up.  BF's intolerance causes him to puke his guts out until there is nothing left and then he pukes some more if something is just cooked near shrimp.

Any changes in medications lately? That might also explain it.

No changes in meds. Guess I should keep tracking food and maybe stress level. I'm afraid to eat half the time lately!

Oh -- just thought of this -- do you eat yogurt? I find I have fewer tummy issues when I get in about 1/2 c every other day or so of just the plain nonfat kind.

You can be happy to have moved and be living with bf but still be sad about what you gave up. If there isn't any consistency of food that makes you feel ill maybe it is something mental/ out of your control.

Maybe its gluten? Later in life my friends dad discovered he has to eat gluten free food.

Keeping a food diary is a good idea, that way if you can't figure it out and end up going to a dr they will probably appreciate it. After I was feeling crappy for a while they had me do that to try to see if it was a food allergy.

Do you think you may have an ulcer? I really don't know what the signs of an ulcer are... but if I'm not mistaken they affect your stomach.

Maybe its something you aren't ingesting. Have you given up on any vitamins or foods that you had been eating but have stopped?

Probably not an ulcer - it's not pain so much as nauseau. I fight the urge to vomit and then wish I had just let it go. (Attractive, I know!)

I eat yogurt some days - haven't seen a difference on yogurt vs. non-yogurt days.

I guess it could be stress. I just keep hoping to find a particular food that is responsible so I can stop eating it and move on.

Dairy is what makes me sick.  I can't drink milk and I can have only like a scoop of ice cream before I get sick.

It may be stress though paint - I've been going through the same type of thing the past few weeks and I think it's because deep down I'm REALLY home sick.  I've been trying to ignore it and make myself just be happy, but if I had to be completely honest, I just want to go home.  Of course I want FI with me...but I miss it.

    :::hugs::: hope you feel better!
