I think this board could stand to have a couple of sticky threads at the top. Sure, everyone might not read them, but it might help out some people.
I've always thought a 'list your vendors" sticky, as well as an "abbreviations" one would help.

Cheryl - I've been thinking about it for a while, but nothing too serious  I always go to Petfinder.com and fall in love with something on there but I never do anything about it.  I've read that they don't smell, so that is a plus.  I don't have any dogs or anything that would eat it, but I'm not sure how much time they need.  And I'm scared of their quills too.

if you didn't then i'm sorry, but i just remember seeing you on here not that long ago and i was thinking, "who is that?"... maybe you changed your screen name or pic and i didn't put 2 and 2 together. i can't keep up with everyone on here, even though i try.

Steph- I can't remember how much time they need. I know that they are nocturnal and need a lot of space because they love to just walk. They can cover miles in an evening. They are so cute. Petland in Frisco has them. Not that I condone pet stores - but I guess if you want to check one out in person. I actually had a dream a couple of nights ago that I had one and named him Hedgey and I absolutely loved him and was pretty disappointed when I woke up Hedgey-less.

I think those other lucite chairs look like plastic Chivari wannabes.

I had actually thought of doing some venue research and posting it.  How many they hold, what they cost, what they include.  If anyone thinks it's a good idea, I'd be happy to do it.

cheryl - i dont know about owning them but I when I was working in guatemala the place I was at had one and I held it often.  When they are not scared they are very soft its when they get scared and their quills become ridgid that they pick you.  You cant do too much with them but hold them gently as to not disturb them too much.

I'll give you the back story, Bridget.  When I first started posting Jan of 08 I was this screenname "Mariah&Steven".  Then when they changed the new layout in January, I couldn't post anymore with that screenname because of the "&" sign for whatever reason.  So I had to change my SN to "Mariah09202008" (the one with the signature with the drama llama".   Then they fixed it where I could post with my old SN, so I immediately changed back.  I've been Mod for about a year and a half now.  That may be why you "didn't know" who I was...not that I care if you know who I am or not.  But it is listed that I am the moderator at the top  of this page.

I think those lucite chairs are awful.  We host events over at the Ritz every once and awhile and they have these God awful lucite or plastic chandeliers.  I think they're terrible looking.  They just look so cheap.

I didn't even know hedge hogs were real.  I'm not going to lie.  I'd name mine "Sonic" in a heartbeat Tongue out

THIS!!  I agree 100%!  My monthly board has a NEWBIES sticky with all kinds of helpful info.  No not everyone reads them but it does cut down on a lot of repeat questions!  A list of local vendors might help out some people

I think this would be a great idea and I am sure those of us that are in the planning process can contribute whatever information we already have.  I think it would be nice to post the capacity, budget, all inclusive, DIY, general feel and so on for each one.  I know I would have read that and found it very helpful when I first came to the board.  I may have still had questions but it would have been a great starting point.  Maybe even a list of who is or has been married there so PMs could be sent for more info?

I wouldn't have believed they were real if we hadn't owned one. Our's was named Killer Elvis... My dad has a special affinity for weird pet names. Now that I think about it, I'm lucky my mom named me!

It has something to do with the fact that the ingredients in cake are considered a Potentially Hazardous Food (PHF) meaing they have the potential if not properly taken care of to make someone ill. Think expired eggs causing illness.

I actually bake/decorate cakes for friends and also pull health permits for restaurants, so I straddle both sides of the fence on this one. A group of home bakers actually tried to get a bill passed through the house last year to allow baked goods to be sold out of their homes and got as far as having it sponsored and on the agenda...the whole guns on college campus bill tied up the house and it died along with a huge number of other bills that didn't get heard. Bronwen Weber wrote the bill sponsor to speak out again home bakers, it was all pretty interesting.

*Sigh*.  Some websites recommend not having birds and hedgehogs together.  Apparently they get stressed with the loud noises birds make and hedgehogs can have problems with mites, which birds can spread.  Oh well.  At least I found that out before I started looking too much.
Changing the subject, what does everyone think of those new plastic see through wedding chairs?  I think I hate them.
Posted by stephiehall
My venue has pictures of a past event with those chairs.  I'm defintely not a fan, but my opinion could be swayed at the horrible color scheme they're being used with.

Side note: Sam Moon wasn't too bad.  I didn't want to get all the girls the same thing so I was able to find a good range.  And I think they'll hold up....well for at least a month probably! Here's hoping or I'll be flaming about that on a future FFF post!

If I could describe how elated I am that I only have an hour and 42 minutes (not that I'm counting at ALL) left at this place, I totally would.  Words cannot describe how ecstatic I am to get out of here.

A girl came in to interview for an advisor position.  She looked to be my age (26).  She was wearing beige louis Vuittons and this weird dress with a yellow neon trimmed zipper all the way down the front and this cardigan thing.  Totally inappropriate for a conservative place like this.  But I guarantee the MD will want her to come back and have more interviews and take our Caliper test.  He'd hire her just because she's hot.

I wish I could tell our MD exactly what a sleazeball I think he is.

I'm still addicted to reading Knot Post Secret/Nest PS/Bump PS even though I think that they're pretty stupid and mostly just people using it as a forum to bitch at each other. I have a question from reading them though: What the hell is a "bee bee"?
I see that all over there and I have no clue what that means.

A bee bee is typically a young bride who thinks that everything should revolve around them and want everything to go their way.

Not appropriate on the FFF post, but I don't care.  :)

If you weren't thrilled with Sam Moon, check out Charming Charlie.  There's one in Plano off of Park and Preston, another in Allen - not sure where else.  It's (in my opinion) an "upscale" Sam Moon.  Everything is arranged by color and their bags (in my experience) are much higher quality.

I was discussing this with the coordinator at our venue and she whispered to me "We are owned by the Sam Moon Corp."  Oops.  Embarassed

Tiffany, I'm the same way!

My company actually did something for me!  They bought me Society Bakery cupcakes, they all came up front and wished me farewell, gave me the book, "Teacher Tales", a card, and 3 VISA cards with money on them so I can go buy stuff for my classroom.  I cried (I mean, almost ugly cried)  in front of everyone.  I really, really thought they weren't going to do anything for me at all.

That is sooo awesome Mariah it just restores faith in people sometimes even though the job sucks the people can be okay.  You obviously made some sort of impact on them and the gifts seemed personalized for your new ventures as a teacher which shows they care.  Congrats from the little I have been on here it seems as though you deserve it!!
• edited December 2011
Aww Mariah, that was SOOOO sweet of them!!  I would totally cry too.   I guess that had one heck of a surprise planned for you all along and you had no idea!
• edited December 2011

I just got in from San Diego and read all of that.

Mariah, I'm glad that they did something for your last day!  I know you won't be on here as much, but I wish you the best with your new dream job!

I like sweatheart tables, and I'm looking forward to be able to spend time with just Chris.  People will be eating they won't care, and even if we didn't do a sweatheart table we would only be sitting with 8 other people so everyone else still wouldn't be able to eat with us.  We'll be making the rounds after we eat (we're not paying for all this food and not getting a chance to eat it).

I think keeping some posts as stickies would be good (like venues, and what the day definitions are).
