My personal favorite as the one of Mrs. E that just said "I'm still here."  Because, true or not, I could totally see her still lurking like a crazy, wild-haired woman out in the bushes outside of our proverbal E-house.

She actually emailed me regarding that one, and said it wasn't her who wrote it and asked for it to be taken down.  Oh, and she CC'd Knot Annie on the whole thing. Lulz.

I can't speak for Alix, but my beef with the SA is their whole "we hate gay people" stance.  Clearly they do good as an organization, but they ARE an evangelical church and their social agenda is concerning.  When I make a charitable donation, I don't want that money going to an organization that has, in the past, threatened to shut down all of their soup kitchens in NYC if they "have" to offer benefits to same sex couples.

What isn't wrong with them may be a bit more apt ;) I despise their politics and theology and refuse to support them and their anti-gay and overtly Christian idealism. My money goes to OxFam and my goods go to Goodwill.

Add that to the fact that a SA in Edmonton was burning Harry Potter and Twilights that were donated to them and I can't do anything but scoff at them (though I do feel bad when I walk past the old people with their buckets and they give you the "I know you have a toonie in your pocket" look. I'd rather give it to Tim freaking Horton's than the Salvation Army).

Not to mention, remember when the SA bucket was accompanied by a nice man in a santa suit who rang a bell?  Now it's just some dude in sweatpants on his cell phone.  All that money you're using for your disgusting political agenda, and yet you can't spare the $50 for the costume rental anymore?  Yuck.
  • That is also why I do not care for the SA.  I think there are a lot of people that have no idea, and just give them their pennies because they're standing outside Wally World ringing their bells.

    1) That's really disgusting, that they would burn donations made by others.  If you ask for money and say it's for starving children, I expect my money to go directly to starving children.  Likewise, if I donate a toy/coat/bok to be given to a needy family, I expect it to be given to a needy family.  If my money is misappropriated by a charity, it's wrong, yes?  There are repercussions?  Why can they physically set fire to non-monetary donations and get away with it?  I'm more than a bit appalled.

    2) I need to know what a toonie is.
  • My face IS emo, thanks to KPS and KPSCO!

  • Exactly. I'm sure those people that donated the books wished they'd given them to a library instead.

    A toonie is a two-dollar coin :)

  • This has been a hot button issue for me for some time now.  I'm so glad other people are aware of how the SA conducts its agenda.  There are many places that you can donate to - it just takes a little bit more research.

I also need to know what a toonie is.

Toonie.  I'm jealous that I can't say fun things like that.  One time I tried to use "mates" instead of "friends" and Todd told me to stop :(
