S/O - WoW

Re: S/O - WoW

  • So, this seems like an appropriate place for a crazy wow related story; it also explains why my mom was worried when I started playing:

My aunt's best friend's daugther (you followin' me?) is completely nuts.  She's in her 30's and is married with 2 kids.  She started playing WoW and totally neglecting her kids.  About a year ago, her husband threatened to divorce her and kicked her out of the house.  She went to stay with her sister.  Her sister didn't have internet, so she left because she couldn't play.  Went to stay with her mom- her mom said she couldn't play and took away the computer.  Soo... she ran away, saying she was going to this place in Pennsylvania, where she thinks WoW "is".  She thinks it is a real place, in PA, and she is going there.

She's been missing for 6+ months.

  • Sarah, that sounds like an amazing cake!  I will love you forever if you post pictures of the finished product!

Our two little nods to WoW (which isn't just an obsession, after all; it's how we met!):

    - the tables will be named after zones in-game (which Sucrets did too, but I swear I didn't know that when I came up with the idea!)
    - the engraving on his band will read "Soulbound 2.05.11"

    Yep, we're nerds!

  • Kiki -- ... wow.  (No pun intended!)  That is one seriously disturbed individual!  I am going to stop misusing the word "obsessed" now, because I don't even come close to that level of insane.

  • Oh, update on that- just asked my mom and I guess they did find her.  I don't know the details, but she's back home and her husband divorced her.  But, she is seeing her kids again and working.

  • That's actually a very sad story, kiki. And while it's your mother's job to worry about you, that's like saying my mom worries when I have a beer because someone she knows died in a drunk driving accident. I just get frustrated when people lump the occassional WoW overdosed person with the rest of us.

I hope they find her.  :-(
  • I will definitely post pictures. I can't wait for the sculpture to come in so I can post those pics too.

I don't play, because its not my cup of tea, but I love that FI has a hobby that he loves so much. Some people I know think that I should be pissed that he is spending 4 nights a week (at least) raiding. I just don't get that. Its no different from my hobbies, which I also do in the evenings.

[QUOTE]Moose, by training your lock pet do you mean moving up from the imp?  Please tell me you were a level 60 lock running around with only an imp.

You used to have to buy training for the warlock demons.  There were demon trainers that sold grimoires.  I never understood why everyone thought we were overpowered because my minions SUCKED.

  • I started playing because H did and Friday nights were his guild night.  I came to realize very quickly, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em."  So many of my friends were also playing so I figured I'd give it a try.

FWIW, my dreadstead is the real, paid that theivin' goblin hundreds in gold for shiz I collected for him, deal.  My green haired gnome rides it with pride.

  • The way I started playing is pretty convoluted overall, but at the very bottom of it is that I was really sick for a while, and as I recovered, my energy levels were not up to anything outside of the work day and the game was suggested to me as a way to pass the time - "but look out, it's addictive!" I kind of snorted at that, but I loaded up the game at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon and when I looked up again, it was dark.
On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same.

  • Ahh! I had no idea so many of y'all play WOW... I just started a new account--sold mine last year as my work wasn't getting done... Whoops! Last night FI & I were up til 5am playing... I actually used to wonder what was so "cool" about WOW as my FI played it constantly... Tried out the trial to understand, and I was hooked from there on out. Glad to see I'm not the only one!!

I lurk on here and started playing because my husband loved it and I saw that some of you played, so figured there had to be something to it.  Now I have an 80 Resto Druid and 80 Arcane Mage (both Alliance) on Kalecgos and raid about 3 nights a week...  We play a little more then I'd like, but at least it's something we can do together and since we just bought a condo and are dead broke, it's cheap entertainment.  And regardless of the impression that people have of WoW players, I've met some truly awesome people on there.  I really want to server transfer, but would feel weird leaving all my guildies.
  • I've met some awesome people playing WoW too.  Our guild is a little unusual in that we don't recruit.  If you're in the guild, it's because you knew someone in the guild.  I know H.  H originally joined because of a guy he worked with, but it turned out he'd gone to school with another guy and on and on.  Most live in or around our city, but some live in the US.

We talk of having WoW GTGs.

I've always wanted to play (gamer nerd here) but never had a computer worth 2 licks to try it on.  FI has since hooked me up and we love it.  It's something we enjoy together so it never has been a problem.  We've taken a small break from it because of April/May being SUPER busy, but we'll get going again sometime this summer.

As for my toon---I started in late January and have a 43 pally and that's it.  I liked focusing on 1 character and someday I'll start another one I'm sure, if not more.  We're hoping to get the whole gang back into playing again and form a guild.  Good times ahead... :)
  • awww this makes me so sad! I just stopped playing WoW about 6 months ago. FI and I decided to stop playing because were spending too much with the game. I do miss it here and there, but overall i am glad i stopped playing. I rolled a lock on kiron tor(horde)

  • When my fiancee and I first met we were both WoW obsessed, but he was Horde and I was Alliance.  Eventually I converted him and now raid ICC together (I'm the main tank, he's the raid healer).  We keep playing despite all the changes because of all the friends we have made on WoW over the years and because it's something we can do together even when we are too cheap to go out.

My fiancee actually proposed to me in-game with [The Rock] by the Dalaran Fountain after he proposed to me in real life!
  • Ha.  Our guild wanted us to have an in game wedding.

    We did not.
