In Case of Emergency....

My fiance and I have planned our wedding fro 4/20/2013 at a local zoo.  The ceremony is to take place outdoors and the reception will be tented as there isnt a building on the property.  I'm getting a little nervous about not having a back up plan...Does anyone have any suggestions for backup plans in case of really bad inclement weather.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

  • I think you are going to have to be willing to have the ceremony in the tent if it comes to that.  It can already be set up for the reception, people can sit at their tables, and things can be moved a bit to create an aisle for you.

Is it ideal?  Nope.  But, what other choice do you have unless you want to book an entirely different place for the ceremony?  The tent will sufficient for the reception in case of rain and tents are often the rain plans for outdoor weddings.

Is it the Philly Zoo??  I always wanted to go to a wedding there!

Have you asked the venue what their backup plan is?  I'm sure this isn't their first wedding.
  • Thank you for your replies, yes the tent is the plan at this point, just been having little panic attacks of "What if..." lol

Its the Plumpton Park Zoo in Rising Sun and its actually they're first wedding so its very exciting to be the first couple married there, we're also teh guinea pigs for a quite a bit as well.
  • ooh, good luck!  I'm sure the tent will work fine!  The only thing I can think that would be a problem is wind, but nor'easterns aren't super common.

Is there anyway you can have a floor in the tent?  That would help with muddy ground if it does rain.
  • I'm not from Philly, so I have no idea, but couldn't it be pretty chilly--particularly at night--in April?  I'd get some heat lamps on reserve just in case.
