Deuling piano's for reception entertainment?

I know that I want live music and the band I originally hoped for is booked.  So thinking outside the box a little, I ran across the idea of deuling pianos.... Is that too "bar" fun?  & not wedding fun?

(We are having an elegant rustic reception at the local country club.)

  • I think dueling pianos would be fun!  However, I'm not sure if it is the appropriate sort of entertainment for a country club

  • I think it would be fun... but I'm not sure if it would lend itself to dancing really well.  It seems like more of a performance and not something to dance along to.

  • It definitely depends on whether you want dancing to be a big part of your reception. If you do, dueling pianos will keep all the attention and it will feel more like a show than a party. But if you're not big on the dancing, this is a great way to keep your guests entertained!

If the band you wanted is booked, I think you're better off with a really good DJ than with dueling pianos.  As PPS have said, it's more of a performance, and less dance music.
  • I disagree.  I love Deuling Pianos.  I'm friends with a few of them and they've done lots of weddings.  They typically do typical "dance" songs early and after everyone has had a vew drinks then they go into their "bar" gig depending on the crowd.  I'd say if you love DPs then chat with them and see if they're even interested in doing you wedding.  If so, do they have experience doing weddings? are they open to providing more "dance" or "normal" music for the reception at least at the begining?   I wanted my friends to do our wedding, but it was too costly to fly them to our location and have them rent equipt., etc.  :)  If you and your FH are down for it- GO FOR IT :)
  •  we are having dueling pianos because fiance and i love it. we ALWAYS have a great time when we go to a piano bar, so we thought our guests would like it too.

we are using 176 keys and they are VERY good at working with us. what type of show we want, how much danicng, how adult/kid friendly. even telling us how to set up the room to be the best audience interaction.

we are going to do request slips too, that way people can hear what they want.

if you work with a company that does a lot of weddings they will know what to do to get people moving. im super excited about the pianos :)
