Seating Map = Greek Islands = Help!

Hi all,

So we are going to the Cyclades group of islands in Greece for our honeymoon. We wanted to name all of our tables after each of the Greek islands in the Cyclades. Instead of placecards, I am trying to find a huge map of JUST the Cyclades and then I want to put cork on the back and then stick a map pin w/guest's name on the island they are supposed to sit at.

Well, I am having problems finding a good enough/big enough map of the Cyclades. I found a poster on All Posters.com of the Cyclades but it's so "classroom-like". Does anyone have any ideas of where I can get a nice looking map?

Thanks so much!!!

  • Make it simpler.  I did something (kind of) similar for our wedding, where we named all the tables after cities we've visited while living in Italy.  So, I just did a simple list of tables with people's names, and then table cards.  Much easier.
  • The only thing I would suggest would be to get one of the school-room looking ones and then trace over it onto another page.

But that's rather complicated, so if you don't have time for that, I would just do the list.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • So let me be sure I understand the logistics here.  All of your guests arrive at the reception.  Then they all crowd around a map looking for their randomly placed names?  They crowd in until they are lucky enough to find their names on a pin?  Then they remove the pin and head into the ballroom where they have to figure out where their island is?

Yeah-no.  This is really complicated and not user friendly.  If you must use the Greek islands thing, at least make up table cards that will be displayed in alphabetical order with the guest's names and the table name on them.

That way they quickly locate their name and move on.  And if it were my choice, I'd also put a number on it...  Dwight Shrute, Table 3~Ithaki.  Jim and Pam Halpert, Table 10~Lefkada.

Otherwise your guests are wandering around wondering is Ithaki is closer to Kefallonia or closer to Paxi.

The sole purpose of table identifiers is to help guests quickly and easily find where they sit.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Sorry-I used Ionian islands instead of Cyclades.  But you get the idea.

  • Hi all,

Thanks so much for your input. Yes, I agree that a map would be a lot of work but I am just envisioning how cool/creative it would look in pictures...and I'm having a small wedding so I feel like it wouldn't bee too much of a hassle for people to find their name and remember the table name (i wouldn't have them take the pin off)

But thanks for all your input, i will take it into consideration. :-)
