Wedding Woes

I'm pulling a DG.

I signed up for a meetup to volunteer at the Salvation Army on Sat to serve meals.

My goal to try and volunteer somewhere once a month or every other month.

  • *sigh*

i need realistic goals like this. my goals always end up being "try to be a nicer person", and i always fail at some point.
  • Yay!  Get out there!

  • That's great NOLA.  Philanthropy is awesome.

  • woohooooo.  As if you don't already do enough for others though.

I'm determined to get involved in my new town.  Guess I should start searching.
  • Zilla, I'm sure you do more nice things then you give yourself credit for.

Zsa, I've been meaning to volunteer more often  for 2 years. I'm just getting around to it.:)

  • Ugh.   I tried this over the summer.   I volunteered at a big cycling for charity event.   It was so disorganized and I felt so un-wanted there that I will not be volunteering again for that charity.   It's awful, but it's totally turned me off of volunteering.   :(
  • This one had great reviews and seems to be well run, but we shall see.

  • Volunteering more has been on my list for a few years now.  I used to volunteer almost every weekend at a therapeutic riding center and keep thinking I'll make it back out there eventually.
  • NOLA - I would totally do that with you. Let me know how it goes and if you think you'll go back. If so, I'll go with you :)

  • Min, I sure will.:)

  • YAY!

It's best if you can find a single organization and set up some kind of regular schedule. When I volunteered at teh children's hospital, it was every monday night. Easy to keep up with and plan around. I think it's harder if it's a different charity every month and you have to learn new quirks with each one.

Glad you are trying a few out. I wish I could volunteer more, but I'm just so unreliable at this point that I don't think it's good for anyone. I just give money when I can.

Same here.  I'm patting myself on the back this afternoon for ignoring my crazy neighbor when I went to get my mail (she was out) and resisting the urge to look up and flip her off.
