C- at first we weren't paying rent, but then my lovely FIL decided that I was costing them alot of extra money by living with them. At first he wanted $1,000, I told him that I would live out of my car first, then he said $500. MIL said $300, but it was settled at like $450. so H and I can't save hardly any money.

Sam - I'm outraged on your behalf!  Pay my flight out and I'll come drive with you.

Why the F are they charging you rent? It's not like you or your H are just sitting around doing nothing. And I highly doubt 1 person is costing them $450 a month. That's such B.S.

Do you have a friend that could do the drive with you? Like maybe fly out to WA and then drive back or something?

Sam knows I'm not kidding.  I'm unemployed, lonely, bored, and love to travel and long road trips with good company.  The last time I said, "Well, then I'll do it," I ended up making her a custom cake topper and shipping it across the country in case the Etsy vendor who went incommunicado didn't appear in time for her wedding.

On the plus side, I have a mean sangria recipe that I learned while studying abroad in Sevilla.

That is a really good idea!!! I'm excited!! I fly back to WA on tuesday, I'm apparently meeting with a counselor at my dads school tomorrow. I mean it would take me like a month to get all my stuff situated. I'll probably ship things home so that there isn't a whole lot of crap in my jeep. I'm going to check on flights!!

I think you should make some sangria when you come up here lol. And I definitely think it's a good idea for someone to travel with Sam. It's awesome that you would do it :)

What else can you make lol?

I'm pretty handy... I can build bookcases, tables.  I'm a really good painter.  Um... I'm a really good cook?  Pretty terrible at baking, though.

Sam - the earliest I could fly out would be June 12th.  I estimate one day for me to fly out, 2 days in Seattle to make the trip worth my while (and so I can see friends who are out there!), then 3 day drive - we can stay with my brother in Colorado to save money (and because I'd love to see him).

Miami would be by far the easiest airport for me, and I prefer American Airlines.  Does that make me a diva? Haha!

haha this is a hysterical thread to read now. You ladies are amazing :)

And I wish I was that handy, but I am not unfortunately. Especially since I need a bookcase and cannot even afford a cheap one right now. Stupid not getting paid until June 16th. Grr..

Oh dear.... little special snowflakes felt it necessary to call you a judgemental bitch for saying you disapprove of people lying as the start of their marriage?  Gosh darn!

See, I just feel like we're REAL people who are REALLY loyal to our REAL friends.  And you, Sam, have obviously become a friend of mine by now!  Because we value our friendships, rather than... you know, lying to people and thinking of our own selfish wants.

Champagne for our real friends, real pain for our sham friends.  Gosh, I feel klassy with such a trashy juvenile statement!

G-Do you have a habitat for humanity re-store? My mom got 2 bookcases for $20 there!!

C-I'm going to talk to H and my parent's about it tomorrow. I mean, mapquest says it's a 42 hour drive, so Even if we only drove for 12 hours a day we'd make it in like 4 days! We could also stay on bases probably since I'll have my dependent id.. We could take pictures and see funny highway attractions!! This has the possibility of being an epic adventure!!!

Ahh I'm jealous of you guys. Work gets in the way again.

I will have to look to see what's down in the Beaufort area because I am not sure. I need a bookcase though. I have 8 boxes of books taking up space in a closet lol.

That was the thing. I didn't even see anything that the PM sender posted.. I mean, I think she was just a lurker. She's posted on here before, but not on that thread... She posted once or twice about asking her guests to pay for thier food and other rudeness. It was a while ago though...

Sam - I have no disposable income, so I couldn't help with hotels or anything.  But you'd more than make up the travel expenses in 2 months of not paying that ridiculous rent.

Like I said, we can stay with my brother in Colorado.  That helps with costs, right?  And we can stop at grocery stores to get snacks for the trip to cut down on costs and crappy road food.

I already talked to T about it, and he thinks it's a good idea.  His one condition is that I have to be very diligent about applying for jobs until then so I can justify taking a week off from job hunting.  I think T would drive up from Parris Island to pick me up after we arrive, I'd spend a few days with him, and then take a 1-way flight back from Parris Island.  Would be an awesome week!

GGirl - one bonus of losing your job is that you're free to take advantage of crazy adventures!

Also, try craigslist.  I'm a huge fan.  I just bought a dresser, really nice, for $40.  There's much cheaper, but I wasn't close enough to pick it up.

I'm pretty sure that my parents are more than happy to help us cover costs of travel and such. So no worries there!! I like your grocery store idea, and staying with familiy. Thats always super helpful!! It'd be like a 6 hour drive for T, but then you would get to see him! and I'd get to meet him!! Ahh!! So exciting!! G, I wish you could come too!!!!!!

Sam-be honest, basically talk about how it would save you money $, you get to be closer to your family, etc. She will understand.

Definitely do grocery stores. You can make sandwiches and stuff for the trip instead of stopping for food all the time.

Calindi-I haven't worked since April 22 when I moved down here. I start Tuesday. I had a month off but that was spent moving and setting up the apartment. so no fun adventures for me (minus moving several states away lol) This whole no paycheck thing is getting to me. Good thing FI knows he needs to transfer me some $ :)

That's the best way to do it.

So I got 2 books from the library yesterday and finished both. I don't want to buy anything for my kindle since I don't have the $ for it really. I want to go to bed early so I can get up and skype tomorrow morning.

Oh and I'm hungry but I'm trying to not gain weight. So I will probably eat lol

Oooooh beer!  I'm trying to swear it off, but it sounds good about now.  We bought a case of Sam Adams Noble Pils the other day... yum!

We can eat healthy, but we'll be finishing the day with a beer or glass of sangria wherever we end up!

Sam-I am a HUGE reader. I read all the time. I haven't had a library card in so long. I'm so happy that I have one again. I love libraries! lol.

I also love my kindle though too. It's so convenient when its midnight and you want a new book to read.

What do you both read?  I'm a trashy romance novel fan (er... addict) to be honest.  Maybe if we read similar books, we could do a book swap?  It's only $2.50 to do media mail at USPS.

I read everything and anything. Right now I am on a Dennis Lehane kick. He's the guy that wrote Mystic River, Shutter Island, Gone Baby Gone, etc.

I also read Loving Frank today which is a story about Frank Lloyd Wright's affair with Mamah Borthwick cheney.  I read historical fiction, non fiction, satirical. Literally everything lol.

I've read the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins on the recommendation of my sister. She is a middle school English teacher.  I've read Nora Roberts here and there.

Ohh I love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich because they are absolutely freaking hysterical. That's my kind of easy beach read book.
