I went to our local one today, and I was really disappointed. I'm going to try some others in the area to see if they are any better. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the fruits/vegetables that were there were SUPER expensive and there wasn't much of a selection.
Do you frequent your local farmers market? What do you like about it?
Re: Tell me about your local farmers market
[QUOTE]I spent a lot at the local farmers market two weeks ago, but I also got a lot of stuff. Most of the vegetables are cheap. The fruit is a little more expensive. I'm way out in the burbs though, so the veggies do not have far to travel.

Ah ok - I'm near Elgin - I'm going to try a few more around here.
I just ended up with my friend's community supported agriculture share (Mt. Vernon Square, DC) and I don't know how much she pays but you get a good amount of food.
There is a really good one in Fairfax VA with reasonable prices but it's kind of a haul for me.
And I've heard wonderful things about Eastern Market in DC but it's only open on Sundays and I have a class Sundays. But if you ever visit DC give it a shot, they have EVERYTHING.
Another good one is Saturday Market in Portland, Oregon. I could go on and on about it, but suffice to say... if you are in that city on a Saturday during season, you should go to it! It's amazing.
We really love shopping locally. We've thoght about getting a CSA but we have fun picking out what looks good that week and FI says he likes to "spread the money around" to the farmers. We get to know the people we buy from week to week,

[QUOTE]I go every week. We have one year round, which includes fruits and veggies, olive oil, cheese, fresh seafood/pork/beef, eggs, cut flowers, mushrooms, all sorts of prepared foods (greek olives, pitas, salsas, plus food stands with breakfast stuff, sandwiches, pupusas, indian foods, etc), and even some craft tents with soap, jewelry, etc. It's HUGE and really crowded. You're talking about the one by The Grove right? I just started going and I thought it was the best. We have one in Atwater Village it is way smaller.

<div>No, the one in Hollywood! It's 8:30-1:30 on Sundays. But the one by the Grove is great too. I heard the one in Santa Monica is good, but I find it's mostly prepared food vendors and not many straight fruits and vegetables. At least the weekend one, not sure about the Wednesday one.</div>
