Issues with Macy's - VENT

My FI and I registered in December for our May wedding because some guests wanted to get us things for Christmas. In January, tons of our stuff was discontinued, which makes sense, but it's kept up. Our Le Cruset dutch ovens? Dropped to be replaced in their inventory with almost the exact same item. Cloth napkins? Dropped, no easy replacement.

The BIG ISSUE however is their in-store availability. I've had family members call the store to confirm they have an item, only to drive there and they "can't find it." This has been at multiple Macy's at multiple cities. What.. the.. heck. They seem to put the phone down, pretend to check the aisle, and then say they have the item.

Wanted to pass it along. We are very glad to have registered at Amazon as well for people who don't want to deal with this headache.

  • ugh... we've had the same issue with Macy's... we registered about 5 months early.. so I get some things are going to be discontinued but definitely feel your pain

  • That problem isn't just a Macy's thing - it happens at most department stores and BBB.  I've heard that in general Le Creuset is mixing up a lot of their lines, so I don't know that I'd register for any of their stuff until closer to the wedding.  The same is true of all items that are more decorative (table linens) than functional (coffee maker.)  These items get discontinued easier and phased out, so register for things like that closer to the wedding or shower so you don't run the risk of the item being discontinued.
  • I've had a few items get "discontinued," and then after I replace them on my registry, I've found them online or in store again - no longer being discontinued.
