  That's just scary. It always has annoyed me when I watch documentaries on prisons and they have big screen tv's, xboxs, playstations, etc. I'm sorry, but if I'm paying for you to be in jail you don't get to play video games all day long.
  
  I still think school lunches are going to be a longtime battle. Until the schools get more money its going to be nearly impossible for the lunches to improve. Parents already complain about their kids paying $2 for lunch, but want something healthier for them. The schools can't afford to give high quality food if they don't get extra funding from somewhere.

  I think the states put their money in the wrong places.  The prison care v. school lunch is a great example.  Many prisoners live a fairly comfortable lifestyle considering where they are and I don't agree with that.  Granted, prison is definitely still a punishment even with the tvs, video games, etc. but I think it could and should be worse. 
  
  Give that money to kids' lunches.  Also, I'm not familiar with how funding for schools works but why do sports teams get brand new uniforms and fields all the time when these lousy lunches are being served?

  Hillary, normally sports get their things through fees or booster clubs. Parents don't want to fund raise for healthier lunches.
  
  That being said (and yes I've said this rant many times), my district clearly defined what they think is importance this year. They opted to cut summer school (meaning seniors who are failing one class will not graduate at all) in order to save Freshman sports.

  Good to know about the fundraising for sports stuff.  It's crazy that people will hand out money for sports and not pay for lunches.

  I'm not saying sports are horrible but kids need to eat well just as much as they need exercise.  A lot of schools have gym and kids on sports teams.  After school sports, IMO, are a luxury for the school and students, not a necessity.  A well balanced lunch is a necessity.

  I agree with this 100%. I don't think prisoners should have any extras. A library and maybe some career training (for those without a life sentence). That's it

  I do the love the dog/horse rehabilitation program that some prison's have going. Those just seem awesome to me, for both animal and prisoner.
  
  I understand that sports in general, and pe, are great. But I think my county just has an excess of them. 8th grade, freshman, jv, and varsity all have teams for about 15 different sports. It kills me that parents would rather have students not graduate or teachers be laid off because they want to make sure that their kid can play freshman lacrosse. That's what the county has club sports for, which are honestly better than the school teams anyways.
