Lochel's Bakery vs Bredenbecks Bakery

My venue just started working with Lochel's but I can still use Bredenbecks if I wanted. Lochel's is closer to my house which is nice. I just wanted to see if anyone has heard of Lochel's, its in Hatboro. The banquet manager at my venue said she really loves the owner of Lochel's and she is really sweet. So that is nice to hear. I kinda like that I have a choice now. What is your opinions on these bakeries? TIA

My advice is have a tasting with both if you can.

I am personally not a huge fan of Bendenbecks, I think their cakes can be a bit dry, however other people love them.

Yea I have heard great things about them but then some people say its dry.... so I will see about doing a tasting with both. I am sure I could do that.

You ever hear anything about Lochel's?

I haven't heard of them. I grew up not far from Bredenbecks though.

Funny, I grew up near Lochel's too, but never heard of them until recently. Have they always done cakes or are they just gaining popularity now? They are on my list to check out, along with Bredenbecks. I agree with PPs to do a tasting of both!

I live around the corner from Lochel's. Oddly, I still haven't tried their cakes though sorry. I do recommend a tasting.

Val- Have you tried anything from them? My friends sister actually works there I just found out. Small world!

Some of the girls on my month board are already going to do tastings... isn't it a little early for that?

I've never heard of Lochel's, but it sounds like maybe you should do a tasting at both and then decide. We are using Bredenbeck's -- I thought their cake tasted ok (we're getting the raspberry). But then again, we're more interested in how our cake looks than how it tastes. It's going to be robot shaped!

Bredenbeck's was a little frustrating to deal with, but if you're going through your caterer, you may not have the same problem. It took them 2 months to send us the contract - they said they were backed up in paperwork, but it made me a little nervous because I wanted to make sure we could get our cake!

RobotCake- I love the robot idea! And Bredenbecks was the one you had trouble with? I will see about doing two tastings, I am sure it is possible. I am sure it is easier to deal with when you go through a venue rather than on your own. I would think all I need to do is go pick out flavors and the design. I can't wait to see your cake!

I did a tasting at Bredenbeck's and I thought the cakes were okay nothing fantastic. Just to give you a heads up though, they only allow an hour time slot so if you're late, like I was because of 76 traffic, you have whatever left remaining. Also, she doesn't really prefer to do fillings like mousses and stuff because her cakes are so heavy. She said to ask your caterer how they serve it because it'd be better if the caterers provide mousses on the side. I didn't like that idea either. But you should definitely do tastings for both and I don't think it's ever too early to do tastings! I started in February and I'm getting married in Sept.

northstar- I did see you talk about the visit with Bredenbecks. I do want to do a mousse or a raspberry filling, so maybe I will have to look more into Lochel's. I guess a year away isn't tooooo early, but I am no really thinking about the cake that much.

I work down the street from Lochel's and we get their baked goods around Christmas time....awesome! never had a cake though! they also have a breakfast place across the street which is pretty good for fast foody stuff.
