Creepy call

Caller ID says DCS Inc.  I answer since you know DH is looking.

Caller: Hi 6.  I was wondering if you could help me.  I'm trying to reach a Vickie Wagner at 2191. 

Me: 2191 what?

Caller: 2191 your street

Me: oh I don't know who that is.

Caller: I haven't been able to reach them for awhile.

Me: I can't help you.

DCS Inc is a collection company.  They used my first and last name.  I looked up the address and it's the vacant house of the indicted felons across the street neither of which is named Vickie Wagner.

I kind of want to hide in the basement for the rest of the afternoon.

    We had the same thing happen here at work.  I get collections calls daily.  Meh.

    Once someone called my family in mexico saying they had my cousin from canada and wanted ransom money. My cousin however was perfectly fine in school, people just trying to get money...just weird how they knew his name/location and who to call

    I've heard of that ransom scam before.  I've also heard a variant where "XYZ was arrested on bogus charges while traveling in Canada/Mexico and needs $$ in bail to get home."  Of course, XYZ is usually perfectly fine at home or at school or whatever.  I'm sure a lot of people fall for it.

    I believe we had a collector show up at our house once. Might have been a process server, because it was one guy with a sheriff's deputy tagging along.  They asked about the house # and the people, and I was all "yeah, that's not us."  And eh was all "yeah, I didn't think so when I saw you."  So YAY, I don't look like a fraud/felon!

    Truly, the people who lived in this house before were apparently pretty shady.  And of course, it wasn't "this house," it was just "this lot."  For realz, the house burned down in 2004.  SIX years ago.  And we still get their mail and their bills and all kinds of crap.  I opened some recently, and it was bills for medical expenses incurred 4 months ago. So apparently they're still giving this address. Nice.
