Wedding Dress

Have any of you ever heard of Dressactually.com? They make wedding dresses for super cheap and ship them from China. I found a dress that i love at Davids Bridal and it was 850$ and on the site it was 279$ Should i go for it and buy it? Anybody have any experience with the site or one like it?

Re: Wedding Dress

  • I wouldn't suggest it. Normally what you are going to get is a replica of the dress made out of lower quality fabric with more than likely lower quality sewing. There was actually a post either yesterday or today on the attires board of people with complaints about doing this, you may want to read some things that happened with them.

Basically, you are going to get what you pay for. Not to mention it will likely be made in a sweatshop, which I personally would take issue with.

On the other hand some people have probably had excellent experiences with doing this, but I don't think that is probably the norm.
  • Ditto. You're probably going to end up with a cheap knock-off dress that won't be nearly as good of quality.
  • I couldn't tell you what fabric my dress was made of, so a cheaper fabric wouldn't really bother me.  Bad seams and poor craftsmanship would.  I think it's probably risky, but could be well worth it.  What would you do if the dress was a disaster?

  • I'd say no.  Those discount bridal companies are shady. I had to deal with one on the original invitations I ordered and it was a nightmare.  What if something is wrong with the gown?  I doubt they will fix it or give you your money back.  I'd say look for a local discount bridal boutique (got my dress dirt cheap at one) or go to a regular bridal shop and look through the sale dresses.  I'm just one of those people who has to look, feel, examine things before I buy them.  Especially something as important as a wedding gown.

  • If you have time to order it, decide whether you love it or not, and then still order a designer dress if the Chinese one sucks, it might be worth it.

I ordered one because I knew I had plenty of time. It was pretty, but the fabric was cheap, and I just couldn't really love it. So I sold it to a girl who did love it, and ordered my original Private Label dress.. My backup plan if I couldn't sell it was to wear it in a trash the dress horseback shoot at the place where I ride.

The one I bought was $150 though, which I was okay with losing if I couldn't sell it later. I don't know if I would have done it with a $300 dress that I wasn't sure I'd be able to sell.
