Disposable cameras.

We are having cameras at each table. We want to add a little fun by having guest take certain pictures. For example take a picture of:

-Everyone at your table
-The bride danced with someone other than the groom (vise versa)
-2 people making funny faces
-A candid shot of the bride and groom

What other pictures could be taken?

  • A shot of their favorite decorative/food/flower element. I think if you spend so much effort on those elements, it would be fun to see them from your guests POV.

  • A picture without a person? i.e. a picture of the cake, some kind of decoration, etc.

Not sure if that's lame or not, but it's all I can think of at the moment. I probably could have worded it better, also.

  • I really like the idea of having the cameras on each table.

I think I would just put a little card by the camera that encourages guests to use the cameras to capture their own moments. I think you will end up with a lot of really cute pictures that way.

  • Are you going to put little lists on the table with the cameras?

  • I love this idea!  A picture of someone/people dancing?  I think these will be a great way to get candid shots in general!

  • yes- we have papers to go on the tables! We have one camera per table.

  • Not to be a turd in the punchbowl, but every time I've heard of people doing this, they wind up spending a ton of money on film and developing, and get very, very few usable pictures.  Usually kids take them and wind up taking a bunch of stupid pictures of the floor or whatever.

I'd do photoshare cards on Vistaprint for free if you're looking to get pics from guests.

  • Maybe you could "assign" each table to a different thing?  LIke at one table have a sign asking them to photograph the bride dancing with someone else, at another table ask for pictures of decorations, etc.  That way maybe guests won't feel like they have to get as many pictures.

  • I like the camera idea, I'm just still trying to figure out if I like the idea of a list of pictures. But, I guess that could be a good way to cut down on the really random or worthless pictures that Brie was talking about.

    What's that?

I have heard many people say this same thing, but we only spend 25 dollars for 10 cameras, and it would only be 60 dollars to develop. And a plus- during my wedding it will be light out so I hope that will eliminate a lot of the crappy pictures that people get.

  • I kind of agree with Brie about the photoshare cards - I think that's what we're going to do. Also, there are horror stories floating around about people who ended up with a bunch of pictures of genitals and such. But maybe your crowd isn't the genital type!

okay, Brie was a turd first though!

We did this and wound up with 20 cameras full of shots of peoples faces under the table, the ceiling, etc.  The cameras were Kodak disposables, we put a pretty wrap with the rquested shots around them, developed them and had possibly 10 decent photos. Developing costs, and on and on.

    Waste of $250
  • A photoshare would involve setting up an account to upload picture on Flickr or photobucket or one of those sites, and then handing out little cards to everyone with the password, asking them to upload their pics from their digital cameras to the site. You can use Vistaprint's 250 free business card offer to print up these cards for the cost of shipping.

My photoshare cards were free, plus a couple of bucks for shipping. And we got great photos.

Just set up a sharing site on shutterfly, snapfish, or some other service. Then have vistaprint make you free business cards that direct guests to your share site and leave one at each place setting.
  • Which would you suggest, shutterfly or snapfish?
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I got prints of our e-pics from both shutterfly and snapfish. In my book, shutterfly wins hands down. The snapfish pics looked really washed out for some reason.
  • We did a photo scavanger hunt.  I had this at every table (yes, it's a poem...)

If you already have the cameras, then go ahead and use them.  I would also go ahead and do photo sharing cards for your guests that bring cameras:

I am your camera, so scavenge around.

Hunt for those pictures that need to be found!

Shoot away and complete the list,

Add any more that we may have missed.

    Someone with the greatest laugh

Someone as tall as a giraffe

Someone drinking an ice cold beer

Someone that may shed a tear

    Someone looking very sexy

    Someone looking very messy

    Someone looking very stern

Someone on the dance floor, making a turn

Someone whispering into the ears of another

Someone dancing with his or her mother

Someone with a funny facial expression

Someone sure to make an impression

Someone fixing his or her attire

Someone running as if pants of fire

    Someone caught by surprise

    Someone saying their goodbyes

    Someone avoiding catching the bouquet

Someone loading their plate at the buffet

    Someone avoiding catching the garter

Someone that looks like a mischief starter

A group of goofballs doing their thing

An older couple with their wedding rings

A couple dipping on the dance floor

A picture of your favorite décor

Someone taking a bite of the cake

    Someone having trouble staying awake

A group picture of everyone at your table

Now a goofy one, if you’re all able

A picture of the couple with a look of bliss

A picture of the couple sharing a kiss

  • They do make disposable digital cameras now, but I've never used one and have no idea if they take quality pictures or not.  But I do agree that digital cameras are fairly standard now and most of your guests will probably bring their own anyway.  I like the photoshare idea.

I agree... cutesy poems aren't my thing, but that one actually looks really fun.

It is true, though, that the disposable cameras usually get confiscated by the kids and you end up with 50 pictures of the floor. It sucks, but it mis what it is.

  • We didn't really get any hits on our photosharing site, but we did get a couple CDs of photos that people sent to us.

Can you get the disposables developed and scanned online, so that you can print just the decent photos?  Maybe that's cheaper than the traditional method?

I will suggest that you ask your DJ to make a couple of announcements throughout dinner to remind people to play.  We didn't get a lot of participation, because I think people just forgot about it.

  • We are having a small wedding and have budgeted cheap digital cameras at 12.00 a pop. :) No film to develop and each camera can hold more than 60 pictures.

Good idea! We're having a great DJ, I'm sure he'll love to help with this!
  • I am not 100% sure about this but, can't you turn the cameras in at say Wal-Mart and have all pics put on a CD?  Instead of having prints made of all pics, if they are originally put onto a CD then you can only print the good ones.  I know that it can be done with digital cameras, I wasn't sure about disposable cameras though.  Just a thought to save money on crappy pictures that kids might take.
