Seafood. Discuss.

Whit & I are currently talking about seafood. I, for one, strongly dislike most (if not all) seafood. Canned tuna is the absolute worst, but I just made J Tuna Helper for lunch because he asked for it. It smells like cat food in my small apartment. It's just gross.

So, do you like seafood? Does your S/O? What is your (S/O's) favorite? Least favorite? Is there seafood you won't eat? Why? Discuss.

Re: Seafood. Discuss.

  • I love seafood.  We had an abundance of bacon wrapped scallops at our wedding and they were a HUGE hit.  That's my H's favorite.

I love tuna, salmon, mussels, scallops, fish, pretty much all seafood I guess.

  • I am going to stuff myself full of snow crab legs this weekend. I absolutely love seafood.

  • I could eat a tuna sandwich every day.  I also love all shellfish and sushi.  Other fish I go back and forth on and it largely depends on the preparation and accompaniments.

DH likes tuna and shellfish too but has to be strongly encouraged (read: forced) to try anything that resembles a fish.

I overall *hate seafood.  Of what I like it's mostly shellfish, seabass, and canned tuna.  I hate the fishy taste in most of it and how there are so many damn bones.  I usually do not enjoy constant choking hazards during mealtime.

Andy LOVES seafood.  Too bad for him.  He'll never get it.

Dani (or anyone), is there anything you won't eat? Or haven't eaten? Anything you haven't tried that you want to?

I personally have 0 desire to try any that I haven't already. The thought of slimy clams or oysters going down my throat skeeves me out.

We eat seafood regularly, shrimp atleast once a week (Ive had it twice this week). We also love fish and other shellfish (muscles, lobster, scallops, crab, etc).
LOOOOOOOOVE SEAFOOD!! I was just talking lastnight about wanting to make seafood sausages with  lobster, shrimp and crab meat in them. omg delicious.
  • I love most seafood. Mr. Arb hates it.

Favorite - Crab covered in Old Bay (duh)

I don't eat muscles/clams/oysters, etc, or anything with tentacles.

So, do you like seafood? YES
    Does your S/O? YES
What is your (S/O's) favorite? Sea urchin, eel, scallops
    Least favorite? boring fish
Is there seafood you won't eat? Why?  I tried sea urchin but it wasn't that tasty to me, just sort of...ocean-y.  I wouldn't eat it again.  I also tend to avoid plain old fishes, too boring.
Discuss.  I love it.  Shrimp, lobster, crab, scallops, eel, salmon, calamari, mussels, oysters, tuna canned or fresh, I could go on.
  • I love most seafood. I steer clear of stuff like octopus though because I don't like how chewy it is.

H likes stuff like shrimp and crabs, but not much fish.

  • We both love it all.  I hate canned tuna though so I can relate to you there.
  • I love seafood. Love. I live so close to the gulf coast that I'm picky about where I eat it though. I refuse to eat Red Lobster or fast food fish when I can get fresh, delicious seafood at local places.

I never liked seafood, even before I was vegetarian (I get that question a lot as to why I don't eat seafood even though I'm veg Undecided). I just can't get past the smell or the fact that the majority of it looks identical when it's alive or cooked. It grosses me out.

FI on the otherhand LOVES seafood.
  • i LOVE seafood. both of us do. kinda weird but i much prefer my seafood raw. i absolutely love tuna sushi/sashimi, but cooked....eh not so much. canned tuna is the worst thing ever invented though. i'm a huge shellfish fan too.
  • I don't really consider canned tuna seafood. I mean it is, but there's such a difference in quality if you get non-canned fish.

I love almost all seafood. Snow crab, diver scallops, and squid are my favorite. I also love white shrimp, octopus, mackerel, and all kinds of firm white fish. Orange roughy is also delicious, but I never eat it because it's bad for the environment (slow reproductive cycle so we're running out). Cod and haddock are great low calorie, versatile fish to make for dinner. It's like chicken in that it tastes like whatever you season it with.

I do not like clams, mussels, or oysters. They just taste and smell disgusting to me. And people slurping raw oysters makes me want to vomit. I'm not a big lobster fan either.

H is the same as me, except he also loves the shellfish that I don't.

Before I went veg, I really did like seafood. Except scallops. And I really, really had to be int he right mood for canned tuna. But I liked fish, shrimp, lobster and crab. Especiall crab. Or something stuffed with crab. Don't think I've ever had clams, oysters or mussels. Except clam chowder. And I'm not a huge salmon fan.

Edit:  FI likes seafood. He lived in Seattle, so he likes salmon. He likes pretty much anything. Neither of us are picky eaters.

  • I like canned tuna as long as it's jazzed up, shrimp and crab in any form, and fish if it's fried. I'll eat it grilled/broiled, but it's just not the same.

Lobster is overrated and everything else I have texture issues with.

My H likes canned tuna with mayo only (he hates pickles), which is gross, and he'll eat the tiniest popcorn shrimp, and he likes crab in moderation. Otherwise, no. He is very picky with food in general. I blame his parents for not broadening his food horizons early on.
  • We eat a lot of seafood in our house. We eat salmon at least 3 times a week. Tuna I love but actually gives me heartburn.
My FI loves just about any seafood, sushi, mussells, clams, oysters, shrimp, scallops.

    Myself I'm a little pickier, I love Seabass, and I prefer it blackened. I like salmon,tilapia,Orange Roughy.But I hate shrimp, oysters.....ick.

    And Blue Moon/Shock Top?
  • I like seafood, but since I had an allergic reaction to crab a couple of years ago, I've cut out most of the high-allergy seafoods like crab, shrimp, and lobster. I'll still eat clams and oysters, and most fish -- we eat a lot of orange roughy, salmon, and tilapia, and mix in other fishes along the way. I've also become much more of a fan of sushi since being with DH.

Even though I grew up with the Jewish smoked fishes, I don't each much of that besides lox and whitefish salad.
  • We love it all.  He would live on oysters if he could.  My favorites are crab, salmon, tuna, oysters, mussels, scallops...I hate clams.  Too chewy.

  • Not a fan of fish....never have been.  I do love tuna fish (in the can).  Especially tuna melts (mmmm cheese).  I like shrimp but only in shrimp cocktail, the smell of warm shrimp makes me gag.  I tried Alaskan King Crab last summer and enjoyed that.

  • FI and I both love all seafood.  He's really picky about ordering it at a restaurant though, and it's rubbed off on me.  Because even though we live near enough to the ocean that fresh seafood is available, most restaurants don't use it.

  • Also, we could both live off calamari if possible.  I love it so much...

I love all fish, but the only shellfish I like is shrimp.  And calamari, if that is a shellfish(?).

I don't like mussels or oysters at all, and I can eat lobster and crab in small quantities, but they are too rich to make an entire entree out of.  However, I LOVE lobster bisque and crabcakes.

FI does not eat seafood, and neither does anyone in his family.

  • Kel, Tuna casserole smells like hot cat food whether you like seafood or not.

I do like most mainstream seafood (firm white fish, tuna, salmon).  The only requirement is that it doesn't taste or smell too fishy.

    Love shellfish of all sorts.

    H eats anything and everything right down to fish eyes.  {{shudder}}

  • So, do you like seafood? love it

Does your S/O? very much so

What is your (S/O's) favorite? crab our favorite, lobster is a close second

Least favorite?  I don't like to have tuna sandwiches often, the taste is just too distinct.

Is there seafood you won't eat?  Won't?  No.  I prefer not to have slimy oysters on the half shell, but I'll usually have one if they're there.  Oh,  yeah, I've had shark and I didn't like it so I guess that would be my answer, but how often are you offered shark?
