Let's Fight!

Re: Let's Fight!

  • I've got one.

I think that there should be helmet laws in every state.  If you choose to ride a motorcycle without a helmet, like an idiot, then you should be required to carry long-term care insurance along with vehicle insurance.  Because let's face it - the problem isn't if you die due to your own shitty choices.  The problem is if you don't, and taxpayers have to take care of your vegetable ass for the rest of your life.

  • No idea how unpopular this is, but I don't believe that the supreme court got it right in saying the First Amendment protects funeral protests, especially considering the people doing them.

As much as I hate what is being said in the protests, they have just as much right as everyone else.

  • I'm not bothered by a proposed ban on huge soda cups in NY.

I get the whole argument about why they shouldn't ban them and people will just buy two anyway or whatever, but mostly I think the point is that if stuff isn't done to address this mindset of eating and drinking jumbo food all the time we are going to be in a world of shiiit.  Obesity is already above 30 percent in the states, in some specific states its much much higher than that.  That's obesity, not just being overweight.  And aside from legit health issues that cause people to gain weight, it's pretty much about portions.  Anyone losing weight will tell you that portions are key to losing - so obviously, they are in turn key to gaining as well.  One cheeseburger?  Fine.  Three triple decker cheeseburgers?  Well, obviously.

So yeah if someone really wants to drink soda all the damn day long no one is going to stop you.  But I think it might be a good move to get people to start thinking about things instead of whining about why they can't have all they want in one cup.

I don't think seniors should be allowed to play the lottery. Its a waste and they take too effing long checking their tickets to see if they won. I also don't think seniors should be allowed to drive.

I am guilty of this on one short part of my commute, but there is no bike lane and heavy traffic. So, I ride the sidewalk just 1 block and duck onto a back road. I get the sentiment.

  • An UO- every restaurant should have an adults only section, even if it's only a few tables. It'd totally be worth the wait to me.

My mom ran an in-home daycare ever since I was little and if I never heard a screaming kid while I tried to enjoy dinner and drinks with H again, that'd be just fine with me.

I hate when a child is screaming at the top of their lungs and the parents ignore him/her. That's great if that's your parenting style, but I'd love a table away from that mess.

Hah. This would be kinda funny. I only say the sidewalk thing because it's illegal to ride on sidewalks in our city and H and I were nearly run over by people on their bikes, not paying attention. Pedestrian has the right of way on the sidewalk here.

I'm curious about the legal precedent here.  We talked this case to death in my Advanced Con Law class last semester and I want to know what you used.

Sparent- we're a dry county and don't have bars.

ETA: Also, in bars you can smoke. I'm allergic to smoke and just want some food without kids screaming or smoke in my face.

  • Smash I'm on my phone so hopefully this makes sense, haha. I used comparisons to cases with other protests deemed unprotected, like protests in front of a home, deemed "sacred", as one point in the argument. I wrote about how funerals have historically been viewed in the legal context and how that is in line with the sacred idea. And I used the outline of how a law may be constitutional when limiting speech by going through the SCOTUS criteria.
