Catholic Churches in Monmouth County

Hi everyone,

I am getting married next year in April, and I THOUGHT that I had both my ceremony and reception sites booked until this weekend. Since my fiance and I live out of state, we had not officially met with the priest yet, and we planned on doing that this weekend (but the wedding has been booked there for a couple months). During the meeting, he pretty much said that because we live together, he will not marry us. I really am at a loss for what to do now because I went to middle school there, my parents are parishoners at the church, and I don't know too much about other churches in the area.

Can anyone recommend a Catholic Church in Monmouth County that is a bit more accepting (won't just reject us because we live together). Since we do live out of state, we obviously could just lie about our addresses, but I feel terrible about lying to a priest because that starts everything off on the wrong foot.

If anyone knows a good church, please let me know!! Thank you!

    Wow- I'm really surprised to hear that your church won't marry you despite your family's long relationship with the parish.  Is there another priest or deacon you could meet with who may be a bit more open-minded?

    I am getting married by a deacon at St. Catherine's in Holmel who is totally liberal. He actually makes jokes about us living together and how it is a learning experience.  We are also going to be joining St. Rose in Belmar b/c we recently moved to the area, and from the sermons I've heard so far it sounds like they also may be a bit more open-minded.

    If your parish is definitely not an option, then you better start making phone calls now and find another church that will let you get married at their parish.  Many parishes want people to be members of the parish at least a year BEFORE they decide to book their wedding date... which is also typically at least a year out.  Since you're planning on getting married April of next year, that is already less than a year.

    I'm getting married at Church Of Epiphany in Brick.  I have a daughter and own a house with my fiance and they could care less.  I heard St Willaim of the Abbot in Howell is also really good.

    St William's is my parish and they are wonderful. We're not having a full mass and are being married by Deacon Kevin. I love him, and the process has been so easy. I know they do marry non-members for like $200 more.

    I live right around the corner from there!  I never knew about it until last Christmas when one of my neighbors invited me to a craft sale they were having.
