Re: 9/11

  • I like how just about every person revealed their age in this post.

    I think I counted 5 middle schoolers,
    8 high schoolers,
    6 college students, and
    4 people working.

I'm usually just a lurker but just reading all this got me teary eyed again...

Where were you eleven years ago?
I had just started my Senior year of high-school.  When tower 1 was hit, I was in a child development class.  By the time I got to my next period class (Italian) the 2nd tower had been struck.  After frantically trying to find my brother and boyfriend we left school and went the reservation we have here in my town.  From the reservation we could see the smoke coming to NJ from across the river.

Do you think your life would have turned out any differently if 9/11 had never happened?
I would have to say yes.  Entering my Senior year of HS was already stressful.  What college should I apply to?  What should I major in?  Now as young adults we had to figure out how to live in a "Post 9.11 world"  I definitely learned how precious life is.  I had a cousin on the Path train as the towers were struck.  If he hadn't over slept that day he would have been in tower 2.  I had uncles, cousins, and friends that stopped what they were doing to help with rescue efforts.  The attacks really put things into prospective.

Did you do anything special last year for the ten year anniversary?
Every year I go to the reservation that now includes a 9.11 memorial.  Just for a few minutes.  I say a prayer for all those that we lost.

Have you ever been to ground zero? When?
I have been to ground zero many times.  Every time the same eerie feeling is still there.  First time was in 2005/2006 when nothing was really rebuilt.  My fiance lives in Brooklyn so on my commute back and forth I've been able to see all of the progress.

Have you been to the new tower?
Last November I was able to go see the 9.11 memorial.  They really did a beautiful job.  I can't wait to go back and see the museum.
