Wineries in CT

Hi ladies-

Have any of you looked into our state's wineries for your wedding? Just curious what experiences have been like for those planning and/or having the big day at a winery.  Thanks.

Sandra (starrbuk) got married at Haight Brown.  If she doesn't comment, you should send her a PM.  I personally LOVE Haight Brown Vineyard.  Such a sweet place.  Hopkins also has a lot of weddings, and is very beautiful.  There are a bunch more, but I don't have personal experience with them.

I love Haight Brown too! My other favorites are Gouveia in Wallingford, Hopkins in New Preston, Sunset Meadow in Goshen, and Chamard in Clinton.

i'm the Haight Brown girl :)  we had an AMAZING reception there.  it's better for a more casual wedding, but it was seriously perfect, although I'm biased lol.  we rented out the entire vineyard on a saturday night, had a wine tasting for each person (which includes a wine glass that each person can take home...that was our favor!), and did a stations menu.  the caterer they work with now is just fabulous and can really work with any budget.  they do have some restrictions (no tented receptions...you have to use the building, and no DJ...you have to do either acoustic music or play an ipod, which is what we did), but overall it was just amazing :)

fyi, we also looked into Jonathan Edwards Winery and Hopkins Vineyard.  We found both to be too expensive for our budget...they seem to be better for bigger weddings (ours was only 55 people).  i think i still have a bunch of the pricing info around if you'd like me to send it your way.

let me know if you'd like any details!  i can show you pics, put you in contact with the caterer and the vineyard manager, etc.  i'll PM you my email address if you'd like :)  hth!

I'm a total wine-a-holic. I wish we thought to look into vineyards for our wedding.. but we didn't (guess that removes my wine-o-holic title? haha).

I would really recommend Sharpe Hill. It is so beautiful there (let me know if you want to see pics). They have a cute porch area, and tons of room in the vineyards. At the top of the hill, you can see CT, RI, & MA. I don't know if they do weddings, but you should definitely contact them.

We know a couple getting married at Jonathan Edwards, which I've heard is awesome, and that is where we are getting our E-pics done.

Not sure when you are getting married, but the CT Wine Festival is on July 31 & August 1st this year. I would recommend making sure you go to that, and that way all the wineries will be right there in one place. You can try their wine, and talk to them about their facility, etc.

I am getting married at the Saltwater Farm Vineyard in Stonington and it is absolutely gorgeous!!!  It was an old airplane hanger and has been rennovated to act as a tasting room and a wedding venue.  They preserved a lot of the original wood so the bullding has tons of character.  I am not sure what type of feeling you are going for, but this place is amazing and the owers are extremly nice and easy to work with.  Let me know if you have any questions!

Ashley - what is your wedding date?  Ours is July 2 of this year.

Wow - thanks for all the responses ladies! This is great. We're not quite in the official planning stages yet, but are casually looking at wineries now. Most of these are far from where we live in New Haven, but I suppose that they could be doable.  We love Gouveia but they apparently don't do weddings.

Thanks again for all the info!

Starrbuk and aljz2010 - I may PM you with questions down the road. Thanks again!!
