Scary Movies

What movies scare the crap out of you and why? Halloween's coming up and one of my favorite things to do is find movies that scare FI. He's all logic and reason and prides himself on not being creeped out by horror movies because they can't be real. I made him watch The Strangers though and he just about pooed himself. And yeah, I'm a PW today. Apologies.

Re: Scary Movies

  • In no particular order:
Night of the Living Dead (remake)
    House on Haunted Hill (remake)
    Darkness Falls
    The Ring
    House of a Thousand Corpses
I also love Cube, but it wasn't as scary for me as it was an awesome movie.

If you have the instant Netflix thingie, I recommend House of 9.

  • I tried to get into Netflix on the xBox last night and it's not working for some reason. Boo.

AK, I don't think either of us has seen any of the Saw series. Also, talking about seeing a movie called Saw gets awfully confusing.

  • What is that movie where the people have the bags on their heads with faces painted on them?  Is that the Strangers?  If so I HATED that effing movie.  It was so scary.

I also agree that the saw movies would be good.  They were terrifying and disgusting.

The Grudge, The Ring, The Echo. Just off the top of my head. I have to watch the original Halloween every year.

I refuse to watch Desent, it scared the crap out of me so I stopped watching half way through.

  • The Hostel movies were pretty creepy. But the second one has a really satifying ending.

I like the concept of Saw. Some people say that they actually got the idea off of Cube. House of 9 is also similar. I love the idea of people being put together for a certain reason and having to survive.

  • The Strangers scared the crap out of me and I am forever scarred by it.  Only because it really could happen, and people are crazy.  I actually went on a first (and only) date to go see it.  Worst date ever.  I went home and watched the Disney Channel so I could sleep.

The Ring was pretty creepy and was filmed only an hour from where I live.  That makes it more creepy.

Paranormal Activity scared me.  I literally sat on the edge of the couch the whole time I watched it.

I'm not a big fan at all of scary movies though.  I have to watch them during the day with the lights on.  I prefer more the drama scary movies, like Eye For an Eye, and things like that.

Yeah, they had these creepy masks and they terrorized this couple out in the middle of nowhere. It scared the living daylights out of me. My mom and I watched it at her house, which is just about as remote a place as you can get. The fact that it could happen is what scared me so much.

Yes thats The Strangers.  2 have masks and 1 has a potato sack type thing with a face on it.  I'm probably going to have nightmares tonight just from talking about that movie.

  • I watched The Fourth Kind last night, which I'd never even heard of. It was my brother's idea to watch it and I asked him to please crash on my couch last night since FI is gone and I didn't want to be alone in the house :/ It was a combination of alien abduction and possession. It was super freaky.

  • LC- Yeah I remember when the first one came out, the ads said "See Saw" and I thought it was confusing too. They're super creepy, like "holy crap there could actually be a person in the world who is this sick and twisted" kind of creepy.

And I agree with pretty much all the other movies I've seen mentioned in here. I heart horror movies. :)

The Last House on the Left is another good one, I can't remember if that one's been mentioned yet.
  • IT scarred me for life.

Scream and Halloween got me too.  True story:  I cried at a friend's house once in high school just from the threat of them putting one of those movies in to watch.

    the blair witch project
    the haunting (1963)
    the ring
    paranormal activity
  • The Hills Have Eyes (remake)

I am sad that Saw 3D is the last one. Because that means no more Saws or Scream Queens.

  • Okay, that's what I though.  The potato sack is what I remember the most. Ack I hated it!  And I'm from a middle of nowhere town which makes it even scarier.

  • I like suspenseful-scary movies, but I can't do gory-scary movies (like Saw).  A few recent episodes of True Blood were almost too much for me!   I'm a big baby.

My brother sometimes does the finger pointy thing and says RED RUM! in this insanse creepy voice and it just about gives me panic attacks. I saw The Shining when I was way too young to see it, and didn't watch it again for like 10 years.

  • i do a good "RED RUM"
  • I appreciated Amityville Horror. It's not your typical slasher film. It's different. PLus Ryan Reynolds was really hot despite the whole posessed by the dead thing.

And EFF The Descent. I cried in the theater watching it. Couldn't sleep for days without waking up in a cold sweat. Plus, her name was Sarah which made it THAT much worse.

  • I was reading about Courtney Cox and David Arquette splitting and the article talked about them filming Scream 4.  Didn't know they were making a 4th, especially since its been like 8 years since the 3rd.

dude the remake sucks. the original is awesome.

    Terror Train
    The Fog (the original)
    Halloween H20
Salem's Lot, if you can ignore the cheesy appearance of the ghoul. My bed's never faced the windows because of this movie.

Night of the Living Dead (original)
Dawn of the Dead (original or remake)
Day of the Dead (to stay with the theme)
    Land of the Dead

    Texas Chainsaw Massacre (ORIGINAL ONLY)

ETA:  I listed these as recommendations. It is rare that a movie actually scares me. Halloween did when I was a kid, The Strangers did the first time, and I Am Legend did. TCM DID scare me.

  • The original Dawn of the Dead was great, but mostly because it was so campy, and it was fun to look out for the zombie Hare Krishna. The remake was scary as hell.

  • The Descent freaked me the hell out. I think I might be a bit claustrophobic because the scenes of the girl almost getting trapped in the tiny tunnel we like torture.

The Ring scared me and I had nightmares, but I still watched it.
I refuse to watch any of the Saw movies or The Grudge. The original of The Grudge is the ONLY movie I know that has scared my friend and she loves scary movie. Definitely not ok for me.

Jeepers Creepers I or II. That scarecrow thing is sofuckingwrong. I had to make Mr. Bubb turn it off half way through. I think it was the second one with the kids in the bus? Yeah, nightmares.

Interview with a Vampire? Really? That movie wasn't even remotely scary.

  • I don't watch scary movies.  We had to leave the theater during "I am Legend", since I wasn't aware it was about zombies.  And I still couldn't sleep that night.

Celles, I'm with you on some True Blood.  We'd always take the dog out for her night walk after watching True Blood, and while I wasn't really scared, it was kind of creepy, expecting crazy vampires (or other creatures) to come out of the woods and get us.
