OMH: Extensions?

I am doing my hair trial on Friday and I sent over my ideas to my hair/makeup gal and she said that since I have thinner hair to get the look similar in the pictures she really recommends  clip in extensions.  Anyone use them for their wedding or other reasons?  Are they comfortable and look natural?

Stephie did extensions for her wedding (and I think she still does for special occasions - like her b-pic).  Hopefully she'll chime in.  I remember her saying how much she likes them, though.

Attention Stephie: You are needed on the DFW board.  ;)

I'm wanting to do this too, but couldn't find a cost  associated with it really anywhere.

    I'm interested too.

My hair stylist recommended a brand at Sally EuroNext that are around 75ish she said.  I just dont want it to feel weird or fall out or anything.  I have no idea how this works but she told me to google gweneth Palthrow for ideas of what my hair could realistically look like without extensions and I am NOT a fan.

That's not bad. I've been looking at Jessica Simpson's POP and was really confused by all of it.

You can get the clip in extensions from Sally Beauty, they can cost about $100 depending on how long you want them. The clip in ones you can either sew the clips in yourself for cheaper or buy them with the clips already sewn in. Everyones hair is different if you dont have layers and your hair is cut straight across and is pretty short it can give off a "mullet" look if you use them. Good thing about them though they curl or straighten just the way normal hair would. Hope this is some help! :)

I wear the Sally Euronext Remy human hair extensions in blonde frost.  I wear the 14", they are $80.  I am wearing them in just about every picture in both my bios (including wedding and E-pics).  They are great, very durable, can be heat styled, never come out and when I have them put in professionally, I don't even know they are there.

This is what Stephie has posted on the WB board regarding extensions.

"I too looked into permanent extensions but they are too expensive where I live.  I wear the Remy  Euronext human hair extensions regularly and I am wearing them in pretty much every picture you see in my bios (I had them done professionally for E-pics and wedding).  I get them at Sally's and they are $80.  You can style them with heat and they hold a curl pretty well.  I never have a problem with them staying in.

Permanent extensions are said to be very damaging to your own hair--which I have very little of.  And as I said, the good ones are very expensive.  Clip ins are affordable and work great, especially for just a special occasion."

i got hair extensions. they are 22 inches and i havent decided if i love them enough. they cost 150 i think? and they were "medium" quality. i just had my hair person order it for me so that it would be the correct kind and cheaper.

    Hi all,
I used hair extensions for my wedding and here is a summary of my experience:

For my trial, I used the same brand that Stephanie used and really like them but noticed that brand did not have the color that matched mine exactly.

So for my actual wedding day, I bought the more expensive kind from Sally that is one big piece of hair that you cut down and sew clips onto yourself. This one matched my hair much better as you can see in my siggy pic, but I have to tell you, either my MUA didn't use enough hairspray / product or the extensions weren't as good at the other brand because the curl quickly started falling duing the reception.

This could also have to do with the fact that it was August and the weather conditions may have had something to do with or the fact that I was more active ( dancing around , etc) but all the same, the curl did not last long.

In summary, make sure you do a trial and make sure you go outside the store with the hair before you buy it to make sure it matches your hair.

As I have stated before, I dyed my own hair to match the extensions perfectly.  It took a while though since my highlights were much darker originally.  I worked with my colorist for a few months to get it just right.  And like Kathy stated, MUAs will also make them for you.

Yeah.. I used a toner to temporarily make my hair slightly darker to match the extensions perfectly for the wedding but didn't necessarily have to.. bc the 2nd brand was pretty darn close but the first brand I bought was either too light( which I actually bought for my trial and only realized it was too light after going into natural light) or way too Gothic black for me, and I wasn't willing to color my hair in either direction:

This is the one from the trial where you can see the extensions are too light:

     :

And from the wedding where it's a good match:

Okay so I am going to buy them tonight and will try to match it as close as possible to my hair.  I have my trial tomorrow and can make adjustments if necessary.  I also have my hair appointment (cut and color) in 2 weeks so if I need to slightly change my hair color to match the extensions then I can.

In regards to what Kathy said, if it's human hair, it's going to react to weather/humidity changes. If it's synthetic, it won't, but it won't hold up for more uses. I have a friend who bought a half wig for her wedding, and she went with snythetic for this very reason since her wedding was Labor Day weekend. But, it came pre-styled and couldn't be changed.

I wear the same brand as Stephie, as well as Jessica Simpson's brand and LOVE both of them.  I have chin length, baby fine hair so I was afraid I couldn't have enough to anchor them in.  After having my stylist do it once, I decided to wear them until they fell out.  4 days later, they were both still in.

Also, if they are human hair, rather than changing YOUR color which fades and has to be redone, I have my pieces dyed to match me.  It fades less quickly and means I keep my hair natural :)

I used them for my prom and LOVED them!! I got them at Sally, if you have a Sallys card you can save a lot of $$. I was going to length so I bought the strands of hair that were really long and hand sewed the clips on them, but it was easy and they had all the stuff right there!

Good luck with whatever you decide :)
