blue cheese

we are doing a tasting this weekend and our reception is at a high end winery restauarant. one of the salads we have our eye on has blue cheese in it. my FI loves it. i don't mind it if it's used sparingly. i know it can be an acquired taste. though because it's a gourmet meal we don't mind serving something a bit different that people don't normally eat so they can try something new but we don't know if some people would be completely turned off by it.

Is there any way they can have the bleu cheese on the side for people to put on it if they choose to? I personally can't stand bleu cheese, so I wouldn't touch the salad if it already had it on there. But as you say, bleu cheese can be a really acquired taste, so if at all possible you should see if you can get it on the side.

Can you just request that they go easy on the cheese?  That way, those who enjoy it can have it and those who don't can eat around it.

I'd either request it on the side or ask for whoever is pouring it is light handed.

I agree with asking if they can have it on the side somehow.

I like blue cheese but I am the only one in my family who does. Most people I know really dislike it and would refuse the salad if the blue cheese was already mixed in.

Honestly...  If you made your whole meal something that absolutely everyone in attendance at your wedding would eat, it would end up being just a glass of water or maybe spaghetti with red sauce.  So try not to get too caught up in this.  It is good to have your guests tastes in mind, but you really can't please everyone.

If you are really concerned, ask if it can be on the side.

Yea....definitely have it on the side if you can. Bleu cheese is my go to dip when I have buffalo wings, but I don't like it so much on sandwiches, burgers etc.

    I loooove blue cheese.

You're not going to please everyone. As long as not all of your dishes have blue cheese or other divisive ingredients, I think you'll be fine. The salad at my wedding had watermelon, goat cheese and a tarragon-lemon dressing. The soup course was butternut squash, and I know 2-3 people didn't want to eat the soup. But there were plenty of other items for them to eat, so they didn't go hungry.

It's hard to organize a meal that will appeal to most of your guests, yet tastes delicious and is interesting. Sometimes you have to compromise more in one direction or the other.

Also, are you planning on displaying the menu somewhere? People can talk to the servers and ask for things like dressing on the side if possible.

To me, the more blue cheese the better.

Go for it!  It's not like you're serving head cheese.

We had the same issue with the bleu cheese, so we just had them put it in condiment cups on the side, so you could use it or not use it.  It worked out well.  Also, for those that do like it, you tend to get more on the side than if it's mixed in with everything.
