OP, however, is not lovely. At all.

  • Quotequeen I have to disagree. Regular weddings can cost just as much to attend as a DW. The package for my wedding, including airfare (3 nights, all inclusive meals & drinks) is around $800 - $900, depending on when you booked your flight.

I have a wedding, 15 miles from home next weekend that FI and I have already spent about $900.00 on. We each spent $200+ on the bachelor/bachlorette weekends, I spent $100.00 on the shower gift, $130.00 on the hotel for the night since we don't want to drink & drive and I still have to round up $200.00 for the wedding gift.

And I'm in a wedding soon and I've already spent the same amount on the BM dress, shoes etc.

I am not having a shower or bach party. I'm not having an at home reception either. I'm just saying regular weddings can add up too...

Pinot - Where are you getting married again? I did a little b-party with the women that came along for the trip while we were at the resort like two days before the wedding and it was ridiculously fun.

FIST PUMP!! I am so jealous.

I actually wish I knew someone with a DW so I could have an extra excuse to travel.

I kinda disagree with you though pink. I don't count my gift and bach party expenses as part of travel for the wedding. And I also don't buy a shower gift AND a wedding gift. We would also normally drive for whatever wedding we're attending, so the expense would be way higher for a DW (esp in another country) than for smething local.

Well I don't think that's really fair, since most of what you're talking about is extra events and gifts. If I did go to a DW, it wouldn't change the amount I would spend on a gift, and I don't spend more if there's a shower, I just split up my total gift budget into smaller pieces. I also don't do weekend bach parties, and I wouldn't get a hotel for something 15 miles from home. So if I were attending your wedding vs. the wedding you're talking about in your post, it would still cost me $900 more for your wedding.

I think $800 for three nights, all inclusive meals and drinks sounds like an awesome deal. A lot of my family has to fly, and they'll be spending at least two nights in a hotel, so it's doubtful they'll spend less than that, not including meals and drinks.

Edit: and they will be stuck in Baltimore, NOT getting to enjoy Jamaica or some other awesome destination.

  • I don't know Whit, I've just been adding up what I've spent on the 2 weddings I have coming up and realized it equaled out to about the same price for my wedding. But I see what your saying. I just think people are quick to assume it costs sooooooo much more and maybe forget that even a local wedding with all the events can add up quickly for guests as well. So my point is, don't get married it's expensive. :-)

Salt, I'm getting married in Jamaica and I'm totally stealing your bach party idea.

Pink, I totally see what you're saying, but I normally wouldn't change my gift giving or bach party fun, DW or not. So in the end, the cost of travel would end up being more for me. I couldn't afford $900 to attend a DW, but I could afford a few tanks of gas and a cheap a*ss hotel room, as well as McDonalds for a meal or two :)

EDIT: I would still totally love to go to your wedding and see you in your stunning dress though :) I don't begrudge the B&G for wanting a DW.
