Engagement Party Favors?

Are engagement party favors necessary?
Did you give out favors? If so, what were they?

It would be entirely up to whomever is planning your engagement party to make that decision as you shouldn't be hosting your own e-party.  But, since it's a party, I don't think there's a rule about what is customary and what is not.

FYI, anything personalized, probably is just an AW move. I'd say go ahead and skip the favors and leave those for the reception.  Congrats on the engagement! :)

I agree with the first part.  but if the person throwing your party wants your input...then great!
i have to disagree w/ the 2nd part.  i went to an e-party once and they had those personalized M&M's...it was SO cute!  one had their names & wedding date.  and the other had a picture of them.  they were all mixed in like 2 or 3 colors.  i thought it was super cute and really easy.  HTH!

    Thanks!
My mother is hosting the party but this is her first time as MOB and she has just as many questions as I do!  Who knows what she will decide, but I'm very excited for the party!

I know this is frowned upon, but we had a combined engagement party-welcome home party.  My FI had just come home from Iraq, and so all the family we were gonna invite would have been the ones we were inviting to our engagement party.  I know people will tell me I'm wrong, and it was against etiquette, but I don't really care. As far as favors, we put peanut butter M&Ms (our favorite!) into little bags.  Cost about $40 for around 75 people, so if you want to do it, do something simple.  Congrats on the engagement!

I've actually never heard of favors at an e-party.  Or a b-party.  Or an RD. Or until the last 10 years at a shower.

I think that things like favors at every single pre-wedding event are one of the reasons that wedding costs have ballooned to obscene amounts.

    I'd skip them.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

I think they're really unnecessary. Food & booze is all you really need. Save that money and put it toward something else. Congrats!
