Polaroid Guest Book

I'm thinking of doing a make-shift photo booth with an instant polaroid camera.  I looked on Amazon and there are camera's for around $40.  But does anyone know how much the film is?  I started looking and it looked REALLY expensive.  Was anyone else planning on doing this?  Or have heard of anyone doing this and if it was reasonable (price-wise)?

I'm willing to bet that it is so expensive because they dont' actually make polaroid film anymore.  (thank you Tom Petters)  If you can find it, it is basically a collectors item.

Another option (cuz like the pp said - they dont make Polaroid stuff anymore) is to just ask your wedding photographer if they have anything. It can be less expensive than an actual photo booth if they are just have someone sitting there taking pictures. I know Callie V does something like this.

We did a photo wall with a digital camera set up on a tripod (pics in bio).  Guests had a lot of fun taking pictures of each other.  They didn't get to keep a copy of the photo, but we made them all available for download on our website after.  They liked just being able to see the picture on the camera, and I think some of them just took pictures with their own camera if they wanted "copies."

That actually isn't true. They re-started production almost two years ago (after being bought by another parent company, I believe.) There are brand new Polaroid Instant Cameras, and you can buy them (as well as film) at either Target or polaroid.com. Yes, the film costs about a dollar a photo.... so it's not exactly cheap, but it's probably less than a pro photo booth would be.

Why do I know all this? Because I almost did a Polaroid guest book, but ended up changing my mind. Looking back, I kind of wish I had done it.

Interesting!  This is drastically different from an art exhibit I was at about the end of polariod film.  veeeery interesting.  I loved those things.  I wonder if the new stuff works on old cameras.  Might be a fun experiment.

Yeah... I think the only ones they're making currently are a totally different size and format than the old ones.

OH! I just came up with an idea that might save you money, OP!

The new Polaroid company makes little printers called the PoGo. They're portable printers (like, uber tiny) that you use with digital cameras. They use the same no-ink technology that Polaroids have always used, but they're obviously updated for the digital camera world.

If you have a digital camera already, you could totally buy a PoGo for $50 and the paper you use for that is about 1/3 the price of the film for the actual Polaroid cameras. You could save a lot of money that way.

    Sorry, I'm a nerd sometimes.

Fujifilm apparently makes an instant camera too, but it looks like it'd be about $1 per photo for the film.
