Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

Eek! My first dress appointments are on Saturday!

Hey girls! My first dress appoints are on Saturday. The first at David's Bridal in Roseville and the second at the Wedding Shoppe. I'm a little overwhelmed because i'm a plus-sized girl and I guess i'm just worried they won't have a ton to choose from or I will be super self consious in what I try on :/

Anyway, is there anything I should know before my first appointments? I don't have a strapless bra, but I do have spanx...should I bring that? Any help is appreciated :)

  • Cancel both of them and go to Luxe Bridal in Minneapolis. Shayna specializes in brides that are size 14+ and she and her staff are FABULOUS to work with.

I went to Wedding Shoppe, Mary Kay Bridal, Heartstrings Bridal and Bridal Accents Couture before Luxe and it wasn't until Luxe that I really felt at ease. Everywhere else the dress selection was very limited. I'm normally a size 18/20 and there were many I wanted to try on, but they just weren't going to fit over my hips :-(

I'm telling ya. It's the only place to go as a plus size.
  • I just went to my first appointment this past weekend at David's Bridal.  They ask your bra size and have strapless corsets for you to use there if you want.  I would suggest bringing your spanx if you think you might want to wear them on your wedding day.  Don't be nervous, just go for it!  Good luck!
  • You should check out The Glass Slipper in Andover. They also specialize in plus-size dresses and they are beautiful!
  • Thanks for the advice! Could I find dresses for under 1,000 at Luxe and Glass Slipper?

  • yes for sure!!
  • Are you going the the yellow house at The Wedding Shoppe? It's across the street from the main house, and they have their plus sized gowns there. This was my first appointment, and I too was nervous, but they have tons of gowns in many larger sizes! You should also check out The Wedding Chapel in New Hope. Bri is great to work with!
  • I purchased my dress from David's Bridal in Roseville, and I am a plus sized girl as well - I cannot tell you how happy I was to be at the Roseville store, they are all incredible there and I felt beautiful in the dresses tehy pulled for me! Take in your spanx if you will feel more comfortable but at David's they have teh bra for you!

  • Another vote for Glass Slipper - I would cancel your appointments and go there! I'm plus sized too and had so much fun being able to try on every dress in the store and seeing all typed of dressed on me. Plus, Pat and her staff are so fun and helpful - I found the perfect dress for me there and I thought they were budget friendly. Good luck!
  • I'd definitely check out Glass Slipper, their prices are comparable to DB's.

Also, I'd call the DB you have an appointment at and ask how many samples they have in your size. I was lucky in that the DB I went to (Maple Grove) had 7 in my size. Doesn't hurt to call other locations and ask them too- that might determine which one you go to.
