Cakes in the City....or Cupcakes...HELP

So I have started to look into getting a cake, or cupcakes, or mini cakes...and I am getting married downtown.  Reception at the River East Art Center.

I'm not really a cake person, and it is difficult for me to justify an $800 minimum when I don't even really feel that I need a cake....but this is the norm I'm getting with bakeries in the city.

I much prefer cookies.....has anyone ever seen a cookie tower instead of a cake?  I've seen pie stacks instead of cake.

I'm not sure how it would even look, but I'm so annoyed with cake.

    Check out Sugar Bliss in downtown Chicago. They have the best cupcakes. We are not using them because they don't deliver to the southside and we are getting married at the Oak Lawn Hilton @ 11am. There is no way anyone can get downtown to pick them up.

    We just used Sugar Bliss for our 8/7 wedding.  I paid a lot in delivery fees to get them to the suburbs, but if you're downtown it would be perfect.  Without delivery the cost would have been about half the cost of a cake.  Everyone loved the cupcakes and it was a fun alternative to a more formal cake.  We did mini cupcakes so we were able to have three flavors which was a lot of fun.  It gave people something to snack on during dancing later in the night also.

    I have not heard of Sugar Bliss.

    The mini cupcakes are SO cute too!

    I was not into the expensive cake idea either, so we used Phoebe's Cupcakes.  Their cupcakes are TO DIE FOR!  And I don't even really like cake/cupcakes.  We had 5 flavors and they were VERY reasonable.  In total (including delivery, set-up, and tax) I think we only paid around $3.25 per.  I couldn't find anything else that even compared to that.  Good luck!

    Another suggestion we did for a shower that went over very well and was delicious....we made thick, round shortbread cookies of varying diameter from large to small and tiered them like a wedding cake.  We even piped small flowers along the side.....they looked and tasted amazing!  Martha Stewart has an example of something along the lines.....

    Have you been to Molly's in Lincoln Park? I think their cupcakes are amazing. I went to Sugar Bliss a few times and was not impressed.

    I'm a big fan of Sensational Bites on Southport. Their coconut almond cupcake is absolute bliss...and their german chocolate one....OMG is all I can say!

    They did my friend's wedding and I'm having them do ours as well. They deliver anywhere in Chicago or the suburbs and cost $3.18 each (for the big ones!) - AND THAT INCLUDES THE TASTING, DELIVERY AND SETUP! Great tasting and very moist. They have a lot of flavors to choose from, too.

    They were the talk of my friend's wedding - I know they got at least 3 new clients out of just that one!
