Adventurers....

I just got a request to do some work in the middle east. They assure me I would be under tight security at all times. Uh... no thanks. Between being a chick in a fairly conservative Muslim country and the fact that we are currently in the middle of a few WARS there, I'm gonna go with no.

Would you do it? I don't have details about it yet but I believe the security would be legitimate folks, not some backwater contractor group.

My sister's company offers some jobs in Afganistan... my dad is trying to talk BF into going over there.

Should that tell me something? ;)

LOL does your dad not like BF much?

Hmmm, it sounds bad but it would depend on the compensation, what the job would entail, how long it would last, exactly where I would be and if I would have to travel while there.

Then again, I don't know how much compensation I would need to enter the arena.

ETA:  I was with a Marine seriously for 2+ years and 3 deployments (and then 'involved for another 4-ish years.)  His unit was the first into Afghanistan after 9/11.  So those experiences would influence my decision.  Also, I just couldn't go (and wouldn't let DH go) now that we will have a child.

Hmmmm I don't know. What kind of group would you be with? Other women? Men? Live in a group home?

Has anyone else read Kabul Beauty School? (autobiography of an american woman who went over and taught underground beauty school to give the women a means to makes $$ for themselves or their families)

Haha, no he does. A lot, actually.  That's why he wants him to go I think.  I think its a kind of an honor my dad is giving him.  He was in the Army for a VERY long time, so he thinks that any man who's really a man should try out the military, or something similar, I guess.

He didn't even mention it to BIL, and I know he doesn't like him.

I worked in Saudi Arabia for a while... it's actually not like you might think it will be.  People there are just living their lives too, just like people anywhere.  I'd do it for sure, depending on the length of the appointment (I don't think I'd do more than a year).

We're talking a few weeks at best. I get in, get the job done, and get out. I never stay anywhere long.

Compensation would be the same there (maybe less) than work I do in the States, so there's no extra financial benefit.

I would do Jordan, UAE, a few others... This is either one or two on the list of the most dangerous Middle Eastern nations. There are many I would go to in a second. This one... ranks high on the sh*t storm scale.

No thanks. My dad is retired Air Force and is still trying to get me to join. My brother is currently active duty AF and has been to Iraq, UAE and Turkey- which is not safe, which kind of suprised me. So seeing and hearing others stories I prefer to stay here. My brothers very first entry into Iraq his plane was getting shot at as it was landing and a bullet nearly missed one of his coworkers. I don't care about the compensation I would prefer to live thanks.

    In that case, nope.

No more compensation for a job that is infinitely more dangerous.  No thanks.

I would do it in a heartbeat.
Sounds safe and I may never get another chance like that as long as I live
