Any suggestions for a grazer?

I know that fresh veggies and fruit are number #1, but does anyone have any real life, easy, snack suggestions for a mother of three who hardly has time to sneak in a bath each day let alone micro-manage a snack menu or sit down for formal lunches and breakfasts?

Just easy, maybe prepackaged or hardy (read: won't go bad quick) foods that you can recommend? Or maybe some simple things that I just haven't thought of? I only grocery shop about once a week, so I try to get enough to last me until the next shopping trip. Any suggestions are appreciated! TIA!

Right now I'm munching on some peanuts, but I know too many of those aren't all that great for you either. I guess it's better than chips though, huh? :)

Re: Any suggestions for a grazer?

  • i would recommend clementines. Because clementines are amazing! You can get the easy-to-peel ones so you can take them on the go and give them to your kids. Just as easy as opening a package of chips but much healthier.

    Raisins

    Pre-packaged apple slices

    Carrots and Ranch dip pre-packaged.

    Rice Cakes

    Pickles (zero calories)

    Olives

That’s mostly all my go to snacks. Hope this helps.

  • I love pre packaged apple slices with the carmel dip! They are so amazing and help if you have a sweet tooth. They are a little pricey though.
  • I love prepackaged caramel dip/apple slices, clementines are also delicous.  I also like Quaker Quakes Cheddar Rice Cakes (they have a zillion flavors from cheddar to ranch to caramel and are chip-sized).  Fiber One chocolate and oats bars are soooo good!  They have 135 calories (I think, maybe a few less?) and come in a 10 pack.  I kow they also make 90 calorie versions

I also love the Fiber One bars when I'm in a hurry and need something with a little staying power.  Presliced fruits and vegetables of any kind.  Ranch dip made with greek yogurt instead of sour cream for dipping those veggies.  Individual servings of nuts like almonds, cashews and peanuts.  Light string cheese.  V8 fusion is also one of my favorite ways to sneak in a serving of fruit and veggies, and they come in single serving cans for on the go!

  • My room mate is a grazer but decided to do a diet, so we got a bunch of these small tupperwares (like, 2x2x3in maybe?) and pre-portioned snacks like crackers, craisins, peanuts, baked chick peas, snack bags of plain popcorn... It's really convenient to just snag up a little cuppy and go while munching and you can reclose it to take with you when you want to snack on the go :) Also, Nabisco makes these little 100 calorie Snack Well packs and they have delicious yogurt covered pretzels, popcorn, and brownies that are fibery and deeeeeelicious :D

We graze as well. I make my own snack mix once a week, I use almonds, crasins rasins and life cereal. It is my go to thing I can just go grab a bit thow it in the bag and I'm off. We also buy a lot of apples, clementines, and pears. They last about 3 weeks so its perfect.  For the uneaten apples we make apple sauce before they go bad so then you have that to snack on too.

It is also a less expensive option to pre mixed or pre packaged, for a mom on a tight budget like myself.

  • I am a total grazer so her are some of my best local, healthy, quick tips.

My "diet" is all natural, minimally processed, Mediterranean (lots of veggies, healthy fats and lean protein and whole grains) and I normally "graze" throughout the day and have 1 well balanced and reasonably portioned meal at dinner and I do not eat after 8.

I set aside an hour a week to plan and portion food. (I don't know if its feasible) or you can look for prepackaged but that will be costlier.  I put things in plastic baggies and

Nuts - dry roasted unsalted and unsweetened
    Dried Fruits
    Yogurt
    Oatmeal - Instant
    Raw veggies and humus/yogurt dip
fresh fruit - only prep is wash, maybe peel
whole grain English muffin and Peanut Butter
Cereals (I love Kashi variates) - dry or with 1% milk
    apple sauce
    hard boiled eggs
2 squares of extra dark chocolate when i really need it
I do homemade granola and trail mixes so I can limit the sugar, fat and preservatives. You could possibly involve the kids in this and keep them involved while doing for your self as well

I don't have kids so I can't say how this would fit in but I hope it helps.

  • +1 for hummus and veggies (baby carrots, cucumbers).  It gives you protein and lasts a long time in the fridge.

I also love rice cakes (100 calorie caramel ones when I need something sweet).

    Good luck!
  • raisins, popcorn-pop it at your house and bring it around (some are 15 cals per cup popped) 100 calorie packs of snacks, i eat peanuts but im not sure how good they are for you. I pack a bag for working every morning of many snacks so i can choose. i bring pretzels, the above listed snacks , saltines, bottled waters, iced tea etc. chewy bars are good too
