Children invited to shower- not wedding

My mom and I were talking the other day about the shower that my aunts are throwing me (My mom is also in on the planning). Anyway, she thinks we should invite her cousins kids to the shower even though they are not invited to the wedding. All of the kids are under 14 years old. I don't care if they are at the shower, but I don't want to be rude. So, what do I do in this situation? Is it appropriate to invite children to the shower when they will not be invited to the wedding? Obviously the final decision will fall to my aunts who are planning the shower, but I would like to nudge my mom in the right direction with this. BTW we are only having about 13 kids total at the wedding out of a 400+ guest list.

I can't imagine why your mother thinks that these kids even want to attend your shower. The last thing I would have wanted to do in early adolescence is go to a bridal shower. Hell, I'm an adult and I still don't wanna go to a bridal shower. The fact remains that guests invited to pre wedding events need to be invited to the wedding. I'd put the kibosh on the kid invites to your shower.

No, it's not okay to invite anyone to the shower who isn't invited to the wedding. Kids are people too.

Also, why would a kid even want to go to a shower? I'd imagine they would be bored out of their skulls.

If you're inviting some kids to the wedding I don't understand why these kids aren't.

FWIW though, if I were 14 let alone younger than that, I probably would not be interested at all in sitting through a bridal shower.

I'm with Lauren, as an adult I despise attending showers. As an adolescent? Pure unadulterated misery and boredom. And when children are bored, they tend to get into mischief, no matter how well behaved they are. Don't invite the kids, especially if they aren't even invited to the wedding.

I didn't invite my bff's 1 year old because she wasn't invited to the wedding, but when she asked if she could bring her to the shower my mom said of course.

However, I also live really far away and never get to see my bff's kid, so I was glad to see her there. It is more weird for older kids, though.

Well I'll be different: when I was a kid three of my mom's cousins got married close to each other, I was maybe between 7 and 10 years old. I was invited to all their showers, but not invited to the weddings. I was not offended and I was really excited to go to the showers, I felt like an adult going to a fancy party! I have happy memories of attending the showers.

Personally I did go to a bridal shower when I was about 12. Some of the games were a little embarassing. However, I was also invited to the wedding and probably would have been disappointed if I wasn't allowed to go.

I don't know if I would go out of my way to invite the kids, but some moms may not have the choice to leave them at home. So I don't see a problem with having them there if the mom needed to bring the kid.

I went to showers when I was younger & not the wedding. It didn't bother me.
