Date? Time? Place? Stress!

My fiancee is in the Navy and we were getting married this summer.  Now plans have changed and we are not sure when he will be coming home now.  Everything has been set and in order.  My question for you all is how you came up with the date for your wedding and leave time?

  • Ditto Calindi's advice!  I planned my wedding for around Christmas so we both knew that we could request leave during our Holiday leave periods.. I also made sure that I got military clauses in our contracts.  HTH!

  • We came up with our date because neither of us wanted to get married during football season as that would have required TVs at the reception.  Which I would have totally been fine with.  HAA So there went the fall months.  There is just to much going on in the winter months so there went those.  We wanted an outside wedding and summers here are just to hot to there went the summer months. So we sort of settled on the spring which is typically very nice here weather wise.  I really did want a spring wedding so that worked out in my favor.  I am glad it did since H deployed a little later.

We did get a military clause in our contracts.  Which I think is sound advise.

As far as leave, my H had no issues with getting leave.  He was able to take the week before and the week after the wedding.  With that being said a groomsman's leave got canclled because of something that was going on at his post and he was required to be there.

    Happy planning!

Sami- when I saw HTH, my mind went straight to RTR!!! HAAA
  • Dude isn't this the chick that comes around, posts once and never again. I glanced at her post history and it seems it. I also recognize the sn.

  • short answer we picked the first 3 day weekend with nice weather of the year.

H let his command know ASAP- and they were able to schedule his training around the holiday. In all honesty we lucked out.

  • Sami-totally! Is it football season yet?!?
  • We looked at the calendar for a year.  We compared his training and deployment schedule with my drill schedule and the weekends we would have my two older kids.  The only date that worked was two weeks away.  We sacrificed a lot of the things we had talked about doing for our wedding.  His family wasn't able to be there.  We had thirty people total between my family and our friends.  The only people that really needed to be there were us, the kids and the JOP who married us.
My advice would be to wait until he has a window for homecoming.  Then figure out what his training schedule is and when he may have time for leave.  Then plan.
